U-Haul recommendations As a truck driver myself I been driving CMVs for over 25 years holding a Class-A license. I recommend a basic video that should be made for everyone who rents a U-Haul truck especially the larger 20 or 26 foot vans. Theres a lot of people who rent them who’ve never driven a CMV ever. I know in NYS and Connecticut there’s parkways which trucks aren’t allowed on especially because of height restrictions. Then there’s some basic rules we follow that I see U-Haul trucks never ever follow. All cmvs must drive with their headlights on, trucks aren’t allowed in the left lane on any 3 lane highway. Another big thing is the stopping distance your trucks have hydraulic brakes not airbrakes which Handle very different especially going down hill were the stopping distance is greatly increased especially with weight in it. So if corporate would make a 5-10 minute video and make it a requirement I think it would go a long way to educating people renting trucks.
