Picked this 15' truck up on 7/17 just before 6 pm, the person who helped me was very nice so no issues there. When I drove the truck it was making a loud whining noise, which I assume was related to the fact the engine in these type of trucks is just under the dash and cover that protrudes into the cabin. It drove fine so maybe that's just how they sound but it was loud. I had rented the truck for two days, Saturday and Sunday, but we were done using it by Saturday afternoon and I brought it back just after 4pm. I was in hopes that I might only be charged for 1 day instead of two. The orignal 2-day estimated charges were $164.68 based on 2 days rental at $29.95 per day, estimated mileage of 30 miles at 1.39 per mile and a Safe Move coverage amount of $30 ($15 per day). I also rented 1 dozen furniture blankets (pads) at $10 but on the estimate the put 2 dozen at $20. With the Environmental tax of $2 and Rental Tax of 11.08 the total came to the $164.68 total. Based on me turning the truck in 1-day early, and only going 14 miles total, and only using 1 dozen blankets, my revised estimated total should have been close to $78.58. I should clarify that I used the U-Haul App to turn in the truck that afternoon just after 4 pm as the store was closed (closed at 4pm) and put the truck key in the lockbox as instructed by the app. And this is where it all started going south. A few days later (7/20) I received a call from U-Haul saying I hadn't turned in the truck, but also commented that they could see I had started the return process, so I contacted the rental location by email to see what the issue might be. They did respond that they would be checking in the truck, but had closed before I returned it Saturday and were closed on Sunday. Just to be sure they had the relevent information, I email them back with pictures showing the actual mileage, fuel levels, and times from Friday and Saturday. Later that day I received a receipt for my rental that indicated my CC was charged $164.68. What caught my attention was that they did only include the 1-day rental and other items as described above, which totaled $75.41, but they also showed a Fuel Service Fee of $30 and Fuel Charge of 28 gallons for $193.20! And the Rental Tax had jumped to $25.46 based on this new subtotal of $298.61. Minus the original $164.68 I had already paid they wanted me to pay another $159.39 and indicated that if I didn't pay it within 7 days of 7/22 or I would be charged a $30 late fee. You can imagine my confusion and concern, and I emailed the folks at the pick up location again, asking them to help me understand the new amounts. They responded that in fact I was only charged for a one day rental, but that I had brought back the truck empty, and this is after I sent them the pictures showing it was still 3/4's full and I had only gone 14 miles total...so how could it be empty lol!! They also commented that they had no abililty to adjust any charges and I would have to contact U-Haul for resolution going forward, which I did. I contacted the E-Alert on department of U-Haul on 7/27 and explained my situation, to which they reponsed that they could only open a 'dispute' and gave me a reference number and to check back in 2-3 days if I hadn't heard from anyone. Yesterday, 7/31, they charged my CC for the $189.3, which seems wrong to me, especially given a 'dispute' is open. As I did not hear from anyone via phone or email I contacted them again today, 8/1, and talked to Mary, who informed me she couldn't really do anything either and that she could see I had not been contacted yet, but someone from AFM would be reaching out and that if I didn't hear from anyone by 8/4 to call back. All that to explain my reasoning for the poor rating as I just don't feel this is how any U-Haul customer should be treated. Hopefully they will respond soon and resolve the issue or I can say for a certainty that I will never rent from them again and will be posting another review to warn others if what I've gone through.

Truck cab. Windows dirty. Could not use AC. Because it smelled very bad..
Lanetta RIs it typical to send out a vehicle with 1/4 tank of gas?
JAMES TThe truck I was given was unsafe to operate. The seatbelt for the driver did not work. There were all kinds of warning lights going off on the dashboard. The emergency brake almost broke my hand when I released it. Many other problems. As well as I was lied to about what I would be charged. $130.00 for 3 hrs and I paid $40.00 for gas for 40 miles.
Joseph DNothing, everything went well
