I like the location. However, I attempted to do my reservation online and had originally rented at a different location and requested a 10’ truck. I thought I was good to go and then got a call at 3pm the day before my reservation and told they didn’t have a truck for me. They wanted to send me to a different location much farther away or give me a bigger truck. Both would incur additional costs and one added additional time. I asked if I could be credited the $10 difference and rent at the location near me but with a larger truck and they would not do it stating that my “reservation” wasn’t really a “reservation” that was guaranteed. She said it’s in the fine print. So I ended up having to take the bigger truck at the additional cost. I find it ridiculous that your reservation is not guaranteed and only states that in the fine print and says the call will simply confirm it. Not that it’s literally not a reservation until the call takes place. I also think it’s insane and poor customer service. Especially the refusal to credit a simple $10. Year high to U-Haul is, I’m sure, an insignificant amount. Why your company had a whole system set up showing you specific trucks and locations allowing you to pick one theoretically based on availability, and then claim they don’t have it and it’s not guaranteed and then upcharge instead is a wonder to me. This is not the first time this has happened. Nor the first time that when I went to the location to get my vehicle and took return, lo and behold, there was the exact truck I wanted to rent and it is not even in use. And yes, I understand sometimes there is fall thru by a customer. But to have that happen several times is a giant coincidence. I feel U-Haul is extremely lucky they are essentially the only option in this particular business because otherwise I doubt you would be as successful as you are. Either that or maybe you’d step up the customer service and experience to ensure satisfaction and not customers walking away feeling like they don’t matter, feeling like it’s all about U-Haul making the most they can and having not only an inefficient system and process, but swindling customers to make a few extra dollars. This is not the first, or I’m guessing last issue I’ve had with U-Haul and, in fact, have had issues almost every single time I’ve rented and at this point, will absolutely be exploring other options and will not use U-Haul again unless I literally have no other option.
