ISAIAH MI recently booked a mobile pickup with U-Haul and unfortunately had a very frustrating experience. When I arrived at the location, there was no clear system for retrieving the keys. I eventually found a key halfway inside the drop box, but it was for a 12-foot truck instead of the 10-foot truck I had reserved. Since I was unable to reach anyone on the phone (my calls went straight to voicemail with no assistance), I had no choice but to take the vehicle available. During the mobile pickup process on the app, there was also a glitch. The app skipped the critical step of confirming the truck’s mileage and fuel level, and it immediately marked the truck as “picked up” while only showing me instructions for drop-off. This left me with no way to document the starting mileage or fuel level. When I picked up the truck, the fuel gauge showed less than 40 miles to empty. I returned it with 44 miles to empty, essentially in the same condition. However, I am now very concerned that I might be unfairly charged for fuel, since the app did not allow me to record the starting amount and the truck was already low when I picked it up. Overall, this experience left me frustrated and uncertain about whether I’ll be charged extra for something that was out of my control. U-Haul really needs to improve its mobile pickup process, ensure keys are placed securely, and have better support available for customers when issues like this arise
