Sarah WWhen I booked a 15' truck (and appliance dolly) online, I chose Silver City as the pickup point because that's where I lived and that's where I was moving from. The day before my rental date, U-haul called to say that that location didn't have any 15' trucks, but that they could get me a 20' truck at the same price. Okay, fine. But when the change to the reservation was sent, now I had to drive 3 TOWNS EAST to pick up the 20' truck. Once I got to the location (a mom-and-pop makeshift gas station in the middle of nowhere) and checked in with the app, I opened up the truck to find no dolly whatsoever. The man who ran the shop was rude and dismissive from the moment I walked in, and when I told him the truck was missing the appliance dolly, he told me he didn't have one, and that was it. No offer to contact other U-haul locations to find one, no offer to contact U-haul to issue a refund, nothing. Eventually he relented and gave us a utility dolly, which was better than a poke in the eye, but didn't help too much when it came time to move both a full-size washer and a full-size dryer. We got in the truck and the fuel gauge was just above 1/4 tank, which meant I had to fill up the truck before I even got into town. I contacted U-haul about the missing dolly, and they suggested I go to an official U-haul store and rent an appliance dolly directly from them, but the closest U-haul store was 120 miles away, so that wasn't a valid option. U-haul did issue a refund for the appliance dolly in the end.
Raymond GMy main complaint is a big one: the person who hooked up the trailer failed to point out the chains that are used to secure the vehicle which were left to drag along the roadway causing a MAJOR risk for sparks that could lead to wildfires. Luckily I caught them at my first stop and got them secured.
