Ordered an appliance dolly online, they didn't have one in stock. I was told I could travel to a different location to go pick one up.... super annoying. There was only one clerk on shift. The store doubles as a gas station and I was continuously put on hold during truck checkout so they could take care of fuel and soda and candy bar customers.

Basic Market employee was very knowledgeable and helpful. He explained the latch mechanism so that I was able to use the truck. It had been a rough day moving so I appreciated his kindness.

I set the reservation for the 5305 south state street location for pickup, and with no prior notification it was moved to the 5308 south 900 east location for some reason. I was dropped off at the state street location, which was specified as the pickup location, and had to get an uber to take me to the other location because there was no notification about the change. I was wondering why the location was changed from what I specified and also why there wasn't any notification about the change.

Our pick-up location was changed to a location out of the way of where we were hoping to pick up the truck. I understand why this happens sometimes, but when we arrived at the new location, they did not have the furniture dolly we had requested. The representative did not attempt to even remedy the situation, instead telling us "I don't know what to tell you, I don't have one of those", after I had explained to him the appliance dolly he was trying to give us what not what we had ordered/needed. I had to find and call a different Uhaul location and ask if they had a furniture dolly we could please use, as it was crucial to the move we were trying to make, and we had PAID for it. This other location did have one, and I had to race across town in order to pick it up before they closed. I was issued no apology, no credit, no offer of assistance. Horrible customer service, and I'm very upset our pick up was redirected to a location that did not even have the equipment we had requested and paid for. Oh, plus our truck cab was dirty from a previous user when we picked it up from the dealer, and we were told we needed to clean it or else we would be charged for it.

The gentleman at the location noticed that in my reservation that I had rented a furniture dolly and a 10 foot truck, he commented that the 10 foot truck didn't have a ramp and asked if I was sure that I wanted the dolly, I didn't know it didn't have a ramp when I rented it so it saved me money by him checking with me and saved me the aggrivation of finding out myself. I will go out of my way to use this location in the future.

Want to improve customer service experience? Switch locations. We had a reservation at 2pm and the Point-of-sale guy, let's call him Jeff, rented it to someone else moments before we got there. I mean, we even saw them leave with the last available truck as we got there. Jeff didn't check any sort of identification or anything else for those people, probably just asked if their last name was , to which they probably said "yep" and got on their way. They rented it under my credit card information and my name. It was obvious that Jeff had committed a pretty serious blunder because he had "guilty" written all over his face. The half-ass apology for not having any trucks available put me at ease though. Jeff made sure to cover his ass to who I assume was his manager, but the proof of the calamity was there for all to see when I couldn't rent the next available UHaul when it arrived an hour later because, oh yeah, Jeff had rented my entire reservation, credit card, truck, etc. to the people that showed up before us. The issue was finally resolved maybe 20 minutes later by someone much more competent than Jeff. He was helpful, apologized for not honoring our reservation, and even gave us free coffee and soda. He was at least trying to be helpful, while Jeff sulked around the counter and tried to cover his ass some more. After that hour+ debacle, we moved our stuff with no issue. Great truck. We come back to drop it off at the scheduled time, and the new guy, we'll call him Larry, was just super rude. He answered none of our questions, but kind of pushed paper until we finally paid the charge. To my knowledge, we didn't get the $50 credit listed on the UHaul website for having to wait another hour past our reservation. So there's that too. Overall, it was yet another bad experience with Uhaul. Which, for the four times we've used UHaul, this is the second time it's been a terrible experience. I'd love it if I didn't have to assume that a bad experience with UHaul is a 50/50, but there just isn't any realistic competition for a comparable price. Congrats for dominating the market, I just wish my customer service experience wasn't such a toss-up.
