My first choice of vehicle, the 10 foot van, was not available on my most recent rental day nor on the previous occasion. The offer of a larger vehicle for the lower price is not ideal. The larger vehicle uses far more fuel and the larger vehicle attracts an expensive commercial fare when I travel to my Island home. Otherwise, the UHaul experience was very good. Local staff are very helpful.

I only drove six kilometers and they said it needed to be gassed up. I put ten dollars in it and the needle did not move. There is no way that I used ten dollars of gas and I would have had to put probably another 20 dollars in to get that needle to move. Luckily, they told me not to worry about it after I complained and said something wasn't right.

Head office billed my credit card $50+ dollars for no reason on a July 3rd rental. Mid Island Storage fine. Head office not so fine at all.

The staff did not inform me I would be charged $73.66 for fuel as opposed to me putting the fuel in myself. I only travelled 7.8 km! What a rip off!

We were quoted $194.00 for the rental max. I asked several times when booking if this would be the total and I was told, yes, it would be the total. I paid on-line before I picked up the rental and when we arrived to pick up the truck we were told we had to pay about $37.00 more. We were going to Campbell River and I asked for drop off there but we had to take the truck to Courtenay which cost us considerable extra time - we had to make it back to Salt Spring Island and having to take the truck to Courtenay made us late for an appointment. We are very unhappy.

The gas tank for the U-Haul van was alleged to be 9/16 full at pick up. I neglected to check this until after the outlet had closed for the day. I had travelled approximately one (1) kilometre at that point. The actual reading was less than 7/16. I returned the van with the tank filled to 9/16 as instructed, and when I reported the error I was told "That's fine." Fine for who? Not for me. With regular gas selling at over $1.50 per litre this was not insignificant. Otherwise, the rental was satisfactory.

I thought that by calling and booking the truck I had reserved it....turns out not so. Luckily I was the first one there and so got the truck. It would have been nice to know it was not a sure thing.



With respect to the question, "Was the equipment clean and well maintained?" yes it was well maintained but clean was a small issue. I'm not sure how well the previous people cleaned it but this facility should have followed up better. I swept out both foot wells and the back (I was the only person in the cargo van) and the back more because I did not want to be blamed for the mess but the people looking over the equipment should know that when it is messy on pick up it becomes more messy from each successive user. Otherwise the whole process was very good!!



Great personal service. A drop-off arrangement for the key after hours would be a desirable improvement.
