I visited the location Monday January 11th and booked a 10 foot UHaul truck by attending the official UHaul site at Ganges on Salt Spring Island where UHaul trucks and trailers are prominently displayed as being available. Employee took my dates and details, entered them in the business computer and said it was all good and booked and nothing more needed to be done on my end until pick up. We agreed that I would pick up 10 foot truck at 3 pm Wednesday January 13th. I am moving and was quite bvusy. I arranged a team at each end to move furniture and other heavy items. I booked ferry crossing from Salt Spring Island to Tsawwassen near Vanocuver and return. I went to UHaul location and different staff were there and they had no information about the truck I had booked. There was no record in the business computer or assumedly on the UHaul business booking site. I was quite uypset mbecause there are a lot of moving parts to such a move and people including paid and volunteers at each end and all have busy lives and tiome lines. After much escalation on my part, I was able to speak to 'the boss' Al who lives off Island near Victoria anmd obviously maintains a low level of supervision over his business. He said the 10 foot truck was not available. There were two 15 foot trucks anmd he said they were not available either. The only truck he could let me have was 20 foot truck which resulted in much inconvenience and extra charges including the higher rate,n the higher gas usage, and a very much higher ferry toll charge because the 10 foot truck is charged as non-commercial whereas the 20 foot truck is charged as commercial. Al told me that I would be charged only for the 10 foot truck and he wouyld call UHaul and ask if an adjustment could be made for the extra ferry charge as the mistake was his staff error. He also said I would only be charged for one day as it would take longer with the bigger truck to get loaded and unloaded and I would be back just over the 24 hour mark. When I returned the next day after doing the move with the 20 foot truck, I found that there had been no adjustments other than I was charvged for one day instaed of two. Given that I had booked a 10 foot truck, that was a saving to meof only 19.99 Canadioan funds. The bill I was charged was in fact for a 20 foot truck, at $39.99 and there was no adjustment for the high ferry costs I faced and I was chargved for gasoline to add insult to injury as the UHaul outlet is at a gas station where Al is co-owner. We need a UHaul outlet on Salt Spring Island. I suggest the present situation be reviewed. I would like some consideration. I have another move comtemplated and will need a 10 foot truck for two days. I will not edeal with Al or his people. They were terrible to me. Especially Al. He did nothing to help me. He says he spoke to UHaul but obbviously it was not heard if in fact a call was made. Neither he nor his staff have any credibiulity with me. I have used UHaul quite a bit. Always thought and said it was a great company so well run.I would appreciate a call and some consideration. I am busy, a coutry doctor trying tpo look after rural patients in COVID-19 pandemic era. The gas was only slightly below what I had when I picked it up and I had to pay to bring it up to at least what it was. Fair I guess but I thought that the broken glass might offset that.

Excellent service as always from Betty. Would still like to remind you that the 10” foot truck needs the ignition looks at. It is difficult to start at times and twice I was stuck on the ferry not being able to start the truck immediately. I will be renting it again soon and it would be nice for it to be fixed before my next rental. Thanks

The equipment was clean but I had a real problem turning the key in the ignition since it became stuck quite frequently. I mentioned this problem the last time I rented but nothing was done to rectify the problem. I was stuck on the ferry in one direction and it took a while before it started. A bit embarrassing since it held the traffic up.

The truck was DOA. Had to have it jump started. Was stressful as I had movers to meet. It took about a half hour to get someone out to start the truck.. The location personnel were helpful and responsive. As it turned out I was on time to meet the movers The truck was a mess inside. Mud on the floors and spilled coffee all over the center console. The cargo compartment needed sweeping out. I cleaned this all before I returned the vehicle.

The trailer hitch does not accommodate all trailers. No refund offered even after contacting UHAUL. I will never use this company again.

SSI Haul made an exception for me and allowed me to return equipment to a remote (no contact) site so that I could comply with quarantine rules after crossing the border - it was a great help and much appreciated.

Over charged for gas, truck transmission was horrible, forgot our dolly (didn't charge us) took for bloody ever to check is out. If there was another option on saltspring I would have used it.

The staff at this branch are super friendly and helpful but they are let down by woefully out of date systems and laborious processes. Also I don't understand why when I confirm something like blankets 24 hours before hand With you central team it turns out they actually have no stock at that location. How can your systems be that bad when you have had so many years And so much money to get them right?! The website and all the automated processes really let your business down. In the age of Uber and amazon it is a lack lustre performance from a company with an amazing position to remain dominant in the market for years to come. But you are failing at the technology so soon somebody will come and eat your breakfast and distrust the market. Sort it out!
