I am writing to express my concern about my rental experience. When I arrived to pick up the trailer at Vestavia Hills, there were two other customers waiting and only one U-Haul employee. She was very polite and once the contract was signed she told me where the trailer was located (parking space L) and then went on to help the next customer. So my wife and I drove around the back and found the trailer parked on a hill with the trailer tongue on the ground and rocks blocking the tires. After some effort my wife and I got the tongue on the trailer hitch. Although I heard the trailer hitch “latch” I did not know if it was secure so I pulled back around and asked the employee if she would please come out and make sure the hitch was properly attached. She came out, looked at the hitch and said “you almost got it right” then she unhooked the three chains and twisted them so they would not hang so low and sent us on our way. We stopped and loaded the trailer and got on the interstate. After about an hour and ½, the trailer came off the hitch while we were going about 65 mph!! I was able to keep my suburban and the trailer under control and get onto the emergency lane. A gentleman stopped to help us and it was then that I learned that the “hand wheel” was in the fully loosened position! I obviously had not read the emailed instructions before renting this trailer and for that I accept some responsibility. But surely you would agree with me that when a customer asks for assistance the U-Haul employee should know about the hand wheel. It was surprising to my wife and I that this heavy trailer was parked on a steep incline and that we were expected to lift the trailer tongue ourselves. It is even more surprising to me that we were allowed to leave the facility without the trailer being secured to the hitch. Ensure that reserved equipment matches what is at the pick up site. Make sure that reservation pick up time matches the pick up location hours. Ensure employees are well informed on truck size. Ensure that store fronts have measuring tape to aid customer in getting the right equipment.

The lady Sebrina at that location was rude. When it was my time to be serviced, she was not welcoming at all. Her attitude was as if she was ready to get it over with. She could not find my reservation so instead of calling someone, she told me she sent an email and walked off rudely helping someone else.Then I made reservations,thinking that I would go there, give them the reservation number and leave, but that wasn't the case. I had to give them my information again and had to wait. So basically, reserving a uhaul earlier was a waste of time. After using uhaul for some time, this time messed it up. I will never use uhaul again.



Recommendation would have been excellent if the office was better organized. That is, only one person was working the counter and 3 customers were waiting. Would have expected more than1 person available to help at the counter. Certainly more than one person is trained to work the counter when customers are backed up? Check in was slow. Too slow. Equipment was very good-exactly what I needed for the job.

No walkaround was performed to mark some damage. When I turned the truck in, I was questioned about the damage that I certainly did not cause. I learned a lesson to be more careful to inspect the vehicle before leaving. However, all paperwork was completed before the truck was brought around and I did not notice a dent on a rear corner of the roof of the vehicle.

Sabrena was wonderful. I didn't have a reservation due to a sudden vehicle issue. She encouraged me ot check back in about 3 hours. I did and was able to get a pick up truck to move things. The man who checked me out was nice, I however am mostly deaf and was low voiced. Needed to talk up some not be shy!

I think you should change the rule back to a day's rental instead of hourly. I needed to extend my 8 hours to 12 but I could not without the extra cost. I really did not like that extra charge. Cathy Noye
