Had the worst experience with Uhaul customer service. Was on the phone for hours. May not be relevant to this exact location but would not recommend renting a Uhaul in NJ. Complete disaster.

Locations are fine - your process is HORRIBLE. This is the second time I've tried to rent a trailer and you didn't have it. Letting me know 24hrs ahead of the rental that I have no choice but to rent a truck instead is unacceptable.

This pickup location was a 50 min drive from my "preferred pickup site" and I was only notified about it @ 6:30 pm the night before an 8AM pick up. This was very frustrating, as I was counting on a close pick up so my wife and infant son could drop me off. (nearly two hours in the car is much different than 10 mins for a 9 month old on a nap schedule). Nevertheless I arrived for my 8am pick up @ 8:15am only to learn that the pick up site did not open until 9:00am. I had a crew of movers waiting on me and I had to push them back over an hour. I move a lot and have used Uhaul faithfully over the past 10 years, I am normally happy with the service. This experience was extremely sub standard, and simply inconsiderate of the customers schedule and plans. If I was notified a week or even a few days before, I could have made arrangements, but 13 hours before pick up is unacceptable. I understand that "preferred pickup" is just that, not a sure thing, but the main failing here is the lack of communication or consideration for the customer. I am confident that Uhaul will do all that it can to make sure this customer is whole.

When I called late Monday morning to confirm that the truck had been checked in to U-Haul successfully, the lady who answered the phone said "yes I see a truck out there. But U-Haul has not notified me why it is there and I haven't done any thing about it yet." She was not planning to take any action to check the truck into the U-Haul system until someone contacted her - either myself or someone from U-Haul. After I expressed a concern about being charged for a late return, she took the time I had returned the vehicle from me and used that to re-enter the truck into the U-Haul system.

We rented this truck on 3/31 at 10 AM. I drove the truck to Sunnyside, NY, approx 46 miles one way, round trip a total of 92 miles according to google map. I left the fully-loaded truck outside the gates of Storgemall at 1 AM, so I could pick up my car since I had to work the next day. I picked up the fully-loaded truck at Storgemall, on 4/1 after 5 PM and drove it to Franklin Lakes, NJ, approx 31 miles one way for a round trip of of 62 miles. Total miles should have been around 154 - 160 miles, yet according to THEIR odometer reading, we drove 255 miles. IMPOSSIBLE and I have witnesses that can corroborate that we did not drive these miles. I filled the truck before dropping it off. It cost me $30 ($30 divided by $2.09 per gallon is about 14 gallons). The fuel tank capacity is 31 gallons, which means I used approx 15 gallons and at 12 mpg, that is only MAX 180 miles which although still high, would be more realistic. Logically, the 255 miles we were charged for just does not make any sense. I can have witnesses, cameras, security to corroborate our story. The woman at Storgemall told me she has pictures of the odometer readings, out and in. When I asked to see the picture of the odometer readings, I was told it was "personal" information. I did confirm with U-haul that the odometer reading of 37046 miles on pick-up was correct, but there is some kind of error on the odometer reading on our return. We complained to them about the charges and at first was told they were unwilling to do anything about it because of the odometer reading pictures. We have now received a phone call about some sort of "computer error" and we might be receiving a credit no later than 4/10. A week later? My credit card has already been charged. I am very suspect about the way this was handled. If I had not objected, we would have paid this and it would not have been discovered. I think your company needs to investigate the StorgeMall. I will not recommend them to anyone. Also you should know that I complained about the truck. Going downhill, the truck would suddenly shift into low gear nearly putting us through the windshield. I don't know if this is a safety mechanism or there is something wrong with the truck. There was also an indicator lit on the right side of the dashboard, an exclamation point in brackets ( ! ) with a wavy line underneath. The tire monitor system also needed to be serviced. So maybe this is a problem with the truck itself, but something is drastically wrong and it needs to be fixed. Please let me know if there is anything else I need to do to get a refund from them.

the employee at this location was friendly and helpful but the location was crammed into a closet sized room inside of a convenience store and not in the nicest neighborhood. the process to check in and out is slow and there was a small crowd of suspicious people loitering around the place. Again, the employee was good, location - bad.

The clerk at the associate mini-mart facility was clueless and completely unhelpful when the u-haul proprietor was not present (he has his office in the mini-mart). There was no sign advising where that office was or what to do if the owner wasn't there.

The manager in Homestead, Muhammad Tilab, was unprofessional and rude when we spoke on the telephone. In person, he tried to rush me through signing all of the paper work without an explanation of what I was signing. He was also playing a Play Station video game in his office when I arrived. He left the game on the whole time I was there. He is probably not a good representative for U-Haul. The truck that I rented was in good condition and worked fine though.

I called location around 3 PM, spoke to rental person and he said he would be there all evening until 9. showed up to pick up trailer, and he is nowhere to be found. Gas station attendant had no number to reach the rental person. Waited 15 minutes and he finally showed up.Returned the trailer, and he isn't there again. waited half an hour with 3 kids in the car, he never showed, so I left the trailer and took pictures with time stamp on them so he cant dispute anything. Do not use this location! Horrible representation of Uhaul,
