How to Use Enviro-Bubble® Packing Wrap For Moving

In 1957, two engineers in Hawthorne, New Jersey, invented one of the most popular packaging supplies for moving and shipping. By intentionally heat-sealing two plastic shower curtains together and trapping air bubbles inside, they created what we now know as bubble packing wrap or bubble pack. Since its creation, bubble packing wrap has evolved into a billion-dollar industry and has become synonymous with safeguarding fragile items during transportation.

Best Enviro-Bubble® Sizes & Use Cases

U-Haul Enviro-Bubble® packing rolls are available in small or large bubble sizes and various dimensions to cover fragile items. We recommend you choose a bubble pack size by the weight of the object you want to wrap. For example, you would wrap tabletop picture frames with small air bubbles and wrap a wall mirror with large air bubbles.

Small Bubble Pros

  • Covers more surface area
  • Provides superior abrasion protection
  • Cost-effective for smaller items

Small Bubble Cons

  • Less impact protection
  • Not ideal as a void fill due to its smaller size
  • Requires more for effective cushioning

Large Bubble Pros

  • Provides superior impact protection
  • Works well with larger, heavier items
  • Great void fill material

Large Bubble Cons

  • Less flexible; doesn’t conform to smaller items as well
  • Takes up more space
  • Might be “overkill” with small items

How to Pack Using Enviro-Bubble

Step 1: Place wrap on a flat surface with bubbles facing item and roll. Step 2: Tear the bubble sheet off the roll using the perforated edge. Step 3: Secure the bubble packaging wrapping using paper box tape.

Essential Packing Tips for Fragile Items

  • Wrap items individually: Wrap each breakable item individually in packing paper, bubble wrap, or tissue paper.
  • Double-wrap for extra protection: It doesn’t hurt to provide extra support for fragile or valuable items.
  • Face bubble side of sheet to object: This will provide maximum cushion and stability while protecting the air bubbles from being punctured.
  • Pack by size: Group plates and bowls by size and place them in the box in rows.
  • Pack heavier items first: Put heavier items at the bottom of the box and build up in layers with lighter items.
  • Fill empty spaces: Fill in empty spaces with packing paper or bubble packs to keep your items from shifting or sliding too much during transport.
  • Label the box: Label the box with the name of the room and what's inside.
  • Pack fragile items separately: Don't nest delicate or decorative bowls into a stack of other bowls.
  • Keep fragile boxes on the floor: When loading a moving truck, don’t place boxes with breakable items above the ground.
