U-Haul Moving & Storage of Morningside Opens New Showroom

MUNCIE, Ind. (Oct. 2, 2018) — A little more than a year after acquiring the former Kmart® building at 1501 E. McGalliard Road, U-Haul® has opened a spacious new retail showroom at the 86,250-square-foot facility.

The opening on Monday marked the latest phase and most recent addition to U-Haul Moving & Storage of Morningside. The showroom is approximately 2,500 square feet, or about triple the space of the closing retail showroom at U-Haul Storage of Creston at 2211 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. That property is in the process of ceasing business and transferring self-storage customers to the new Morningside facility in order to provide a better product and service.

When adaptive reuse of U-Haul Moving & Storage of Morningside is completed, it will offer approximately 706 indoor self-storage units with high-tech security features, climate-control options and a covered load/unload zone.

“We’re expanding operations to be able to provide a better self-storage product and serve our customers at the level they’ve come to expect,” noted Anthony Jones, U-Haul area district vice president and former U-Haul Company of Central Indiana president.

“This property sat vacant for a long time, so the community has been very excited about our arrival. There was a wait list for self-storage before we got in here. This location serves a large student population at Ball State, so there is a demand for a state-of-the-art facility. Obviously, it’s a big upgrade going from 80 self-storage rooms (at U-Haul Storage of Creston) to 700.”

Jones expects to hire a staff of 12 or more Team Members right away and then hire additional staff when the facility is fully operational. U-Haul will look to hire locally to promote job growth within Muncie.
