Moving to the School of Art Institute of Chicago

Feb 1, 2014

Moving into SAICSo you want to be an artist, filmmaker, architect, photographer, videographer or writer? The School of Art Institute of Chicago, called SAIC for short, is the perfect place if you’re looking for a career in an art field. It has been recognized as the most influential art school in the nation, and rightfully so as it’s home to the Art Institute of Chicago museum.

Attending SAIC means you’ll be living in Chicago! While it may get very cold during the winter time, when you move in during the fall semester the weather will be perfect to walk around and explore Chi-Town.

SAIC Move InMoving On An Alternate Date:

As a student you’ll be moving into one of three dorms: Jones Hall, 162 North State Street Residences or Buckingham (an alternative housing unit). The school says the time it takes to move into the halls can range “from 30 minutes to 2 hours” and “there are often long waits for the elevators”. A great way to cut this time short is to move on an alternate date. You won’t get the perks of having student members assist you with moving in, but it can be a better option. You’ll have access to elevators sans, the long lines, as well as laundry carts to help you haul your belongings.

A Moving Truck In The City:

Moving into a city environment can mean difficulty with parking and navigating through smaller streets. But don’t worry if you’re renting a U-Haul moving truck, because the school has staff members direct drivers on where to park and where to safely unload. Just make sure you’ve got a team of family members helping you move in so you can get it done in a timely manner (and get college started)!

Opting For Shipments:

SAIC CollegeboxesSAIC has partnered with Collegeboxes for over seven years to help students get their items from home shipped right to their school. This is an easy and hassle-free way to move some of your belongings. All you’ll have to do is pack your belongings at home, and FedEx will pick them up, ship them for temporary storage near the school, and then by the time you reach campus your boxes will be waiting for you in the comfort of your own dorm room.
