Storage for Young Professionals

Oct 4, 2014

It’s time to take responsibility for your belongings and keepsakes. If you’re like me, you might not have a ton of space to store your seasonal items, mementos, sporting goods, etc. These storage tips below will give you some insight on storage for young professionals!

Keepsakes and Mementos

For most, when you’re living at mom and dad’s your keepsakes and mementos are in a family storage closet. When you’re out of the house and maybe you’ve moved into your second or third apartment or house, it’s up to you on what to store or toss. Keepsakes or mementos – think yearbooks, old print photos, trinkets, etc- can be easily boxed and stored in a garage or closet. Take care with photos and other sensitive items, you may want to look into a climate controlled storage unit to make sure they don’t melt, otherwise warp or freeze!

Out of Season Clothes

If you aren’t lucky enough to snag the master bedroom or otherwise have a walk-in closet, having your entire wardrobe on display can be tricky. The best tip I can give those who are stuck with a less than stellar closet is to change out your wardrobe by season. In the cooler months, keep your summer clothes boxed up and stored under your bed or other hidden places in your home. You can do the same with your winter wardrobe in the summer. I actually have two wardrobe boxes full of winter clothes that I keep in the attic!

Sporting Goods

Let’s face it: you only get so many vacation days off a year! That means you won’t need your snowboard, skiis, surfboard, or other seasonal type of sports equipment out. You can find a storage unit to house just what you need. If it’s your firs time renting a storage unit, check out this blog post for some storage tips!
