Moving to Concord

Originally named Todos Santos, Concord, California is the eighth largest city in the Bay area, lying just 29 miles northeast of San Francisco. Concord is only a short drive from other major cities in Northern California, including Oakland, Sacramento, and San Jose. While the thought of moving to the Bay Area may seem overwhelming, we’re here to help make your move easier. Here are some tips on moving to Concord.

When to Move

Concord has a Mediterranean climate with warm summers and wet winters. During the summer, temperatures average from the high 70s to high 80s and occasionally top out at just over 90 degrees. The most rainfall occurs between December and February, so if you’re planning on moving in the rain, it’s best to be prepared. Spring and fall bring mild temperatures and ideal moving conditions.

Cost of Living

As is typical in California, the cost of living in Concord is higher than the US average. In fact, housing is more than twice the national average. In 2015, the typical home cost over $450,000. Groceries, healthcare costs, and transportation are also above average, while the costs of utilities were slightly below average. Apartments range from $1,900 (one bedroom) to $2,200 (two bedroom) per month.

Economy

Concord is primarily a “bedroom community,” meaning that its residents live there, but they commute to other major cities to work. Recently, however, employment within the city has risen. Companies like Chevron and Bank of America, which have strong corporate ties to the Bay Area, have established new operating facilities in Concord, revitalizing the economy. Some of the city’s top employers include Mt. Diablo Unified School District, Wells Fargo Credit Center, Chevron, Pacific Gas & Electric Company and the Bank of America Technology Center.

Education

With multiple colleges in the area–including California State University, East Bay–you may want to plan your move around the beginning and end of the semesters.
