The pick up experience was not good. The employee at the store was not well informed about how u haul works. She did have me complete the check in process on my phone- and upload my drivers license photo- which was fine. But then she asked for my letters of reference so that I could drive the 15' truck I had reserved. I have rented from u haul before and never been asked this. Then she did not know which truck was mine. She asked me to dial the 1-800 number which I did. She seemed frustrated with u haul. Eventually the u haul rep at the 1 800 number talked her through which truck was mine and she eventually found the key. I had ordered 1/2 dozen or maybe a dozen grey moving blankets and she said they were not anywhere there. I asked the 1-800 rep to take the charge for those off my account, which he did. The inside of the truck has pallets in it- which did not bother me, but also left over stuff from a or several previous moves - a bag of pistachios, a bag of gum, various plastic wraps, etc... I was about 45 min late for pickup because the east coast had just experienced and was still experiencing torrential downpours, but I did arrive within a one hour. Eventually the employee warmed up as I and the 1-800 worked through the process, but clearly more training and communication with neighborhood dealers is necessary. In the past I have gone to main U haul pickup locations and the process has been easy. this was unexpected hard and stressful. I had driven 4 hours to pick up this truck, and needed to meet people to pick up my delivery and then drove another 6 hours to my destination. Could have done without the stress at the dealership, since the woman at first was sounding like I was not going to get my truck. I did get the truck eventually and it did the job, so it worked out, but again, education of neighborhood dealers needs to be better.

When I made the reservation I did not know (and it was not noted) that the pick up location was not an actual u-haul facility, but a home decorator store that rents parking lot space to u haul. The person at this store was very nice, and informed me that I had to do the entire pick-up process on the u haul app on my phone! Almost impossible to do! I was not in a very good cell location and I had to take pics of myself, both sides of my drivers license, and provide 2 people who they could call to verify it was me! Why do they assume that 2 people would be available to verify my identy? Took 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete this stupid process! NEVER AGAIN! Goodbye U-Haul.....

Had a terrible experience w the reservation as uhaul changed everything claiming not to have the equipment I ordered and had to change everything by phone which was a nitemare . Next time when I order equipment. Days in advance , have the equiomeht ready . They tried offering larger truck but no good for me bc of size of driveway etc . It was a very distressing experience

The pick up process was horrible. Your app / website are not well designed to be able to access the keys in that box without the help of a human. I had to call customer service and they were on the phone with me for 45 minutes walking me through step-by-step. The van and the box were in a pitch black location. Almost tripped and fell multiple times. Oh, and I was disconnected 3 times before getting a customer service person on the phone. Once I did, that person was very nice and extremely helpful and patient with me.

No UHaul employees onsite. Was informed that I had to download the UHaul App, then sign in, then I find my reservation. The app wants lots of information, the layout of the app is clunky. I have to take pictures of myself, plus all four sides of the vehicle, provide names and phone numbers of people who know me to verify I am who I say I am. It was me doing the work - and being insulted besides, and intrusive to my friends. This is NOT the fault of the woman who runs the furniture store which is really at the address given as a Uhaul location. In short, the process was lengthy, unexpected, demanding, unpaid labor on my part. Terrible! Oh, and they didn’t provide the blankets I requested, nor could I get any other equipment at pickup time. It just sucked from beginning to end. I did talk to the “manager” who was at his daughter’s soccer game - because the app failed to give me a rental agreement (he did send me one). Then nobody to ask about the tailer indicator light on the dashboard… And what do I do about tolls on the Throggs Neck Bridge? Nobody to ask… so I just drove through them.

No customer support. We had to pick up the trailer in a different location the following day to find out that the wiring for the trailer lights through the truck did not work. This altered our entire trip less than 24 hours before our departure and tried our plans. Very disappointed in UHaul for not having working equipment or an alternate truck for us to use. When we picked up the trailer in Coram, the manage said it was not his responsibility, not his problem. Then who’s is it? no one answered the 1-800 number at UHaul for over an hour, finally had someone pick up only to be put on hold again. This happened repeatedly over 3 hours, I still have not been able to contact anyone from customer service.

The key wasn’t available at the box the location wasn’t open and the checkout took a long time. The interior was dirty. Also the seatbelt buckle holder was broken. However, truck drove fine.

The keys were not available in the lock box for a 9:00 pick up. I had to wait for the location to open and then it took 40 minutes to get the keys. The agent complained several times about having to do uhaul and insisted that I move away from the counter and sit 20’ away. I have since moved my uhaul business to Country Kitchens in Southampton and have been very pleased. They are very nice and very professional.

Regional business manager made repeated mistakes. Had to use the 800 number to resolve. Heard from another customer and the store agent there are problems EVERY SINGLE TIME at this location due to the Regional manager who is remote.

The process takes way too long. I have a corp. account. Even though I do everything with an agent on the phone including a confirmation number it all has to be done again at the pick up location. Often the person at the location is not trained in uhaul rentals. I end up on the phone with another person at a different location using the uhaul app to re-apply for a rental. This took 3 attempts using 3 different links sent to my phone while I was at the location. After 30 minutes we were finally able to scan and send the license pictures. I rent several times a year and this is very frustrating. The people at the location are very nice but need training if they are representing U-Haul. And yes, this does happen almost every time.

The truck smelled like it had deer in the back. Terrible smell. Dirty seats. Whoever checked me out and gave me the keys very professional and clean location.

The van stunk of smoke and it was awful. It needs a deep cleaning and that should have been dealt with before our rental. Also the right windshield did not work and we only noticed it when it began to rain and it was very concerning

Update equipment. Manual roll up windows are so 1960. Backup cameras and proximity sensors would improve safety and protect equipment.

My experience was excellent from the moment that I booked the uhaul on my phone to when I dropped it off. Super easy!! I liked how I could handle all of the pre registration on my phone. The whole interface for check in was well done!!!
