Dawson Road is in serious need of repairs
YVETTE GWow,,, they’re giving me a chance to vent and hopefully correct this situation. I ordered a 5x8’ enclosed trailer online back in March 11 for a rental date of March 28th at a very close agent to my home. Someone from U-Haul called and March 12th , to state that some work had to be done on the trailer in question that I ordered, along with some new tires. I reminded them that I didn’t need the trailer for over two weeks and that the work should be done by then, so there should be no issues about picking it up from the stink I preferred. The day before my pickup date, I get a text reminding me of my order, and that I can pick up my trailer at a different station at my ordered time of 9a.m. I immediately replied to the text and said I didn’t order from that station, and that it was across the city from where I am and the preferred location I ordered from. They came back with a customer service number, and said I could try them. I tried calling both the station I preferred to pick it up from, and the one that U-Haul now say I have to pick it up from. I’ll eliminate the calls to corporate and being transferred to two other departments, all to NO avail, and just being referred back to customer service. So the next morning, with I drive across town to pick up my enclosed trailer. I go into the agents convenience store operation, also a 6 bay car wash. I wait in line to pay for my order, and am asked to leave the convenience store, with the agent, and stand outside while she locks the door from the outside , and opens a locked wash bay door. She comes back a couple of minutes later, we go back in, she fills out the application with my drivers license number and states that I have to pay $20 for insurance, on top of the correct price for the rental. I had ordered the appropriate online $10 rental insurance on my original online order, so I refused and told her that. I received my printed copy of my contract and receipt, and am told to drive out back and help myself to hook up my ordered product. I look for the trailer with the number on my printed receipt, and see it down the row of about 5 or more other trailers,,,, all with the trailer hitches down on the ground ,,, completely frozen in a pond of about 5 inches of water. I try lifting the hitch up out of the ice,,,, but it is solid,,, in ice, along with the wiring for the lights, the safety chain and the hitch coupler. I personally can not break it loose. I go back to the front store entrance, and explain my situation, and she gives someone else a phone call, with no answer, and no message to be left. She texts someone, and asks me to leave the store again,,,, telling me to meet her at the trailer. I drive again around back to my numbered trailer. Minutes later she shows up with an old spade shovel and a garden edge trimmer, and we both try chiseling away at the ice, one on either side of the hitch. Over 10 minutes later, I come with the idea of asking her for a pail of steaming hot water to pour over the metal hitch and into the slight divot we had made in the ice. She leaves, I continue, and she shows up several minutes later with some hot water. We pour it on an d minutes later I heave the hitch out of the ice, and hook it onto my vehicle’s ball hitch. I complete the electrical harness and safety chain application, and check the turn signal and brake lights. All working, I approach the front of the store again and aske her if that’s it and she needs a picture of my vehicle license plate. She takes it and I leave,,, now over 90 minutes since I showed up. The agent replied that was no discount or refund jfor my tardiness in leaving the store so late. I am hoping corporate sees this review, and replies accordingly. I believe that If you went into a service shop or restaurant, and received this kind of service, they would definitely reimburse you some how. I happen U-Haul Corporate does too.
HARRY BI recommended no for this location as I do not live in Winnipeg, I am from out of town. I had reserved a trailer at the location near Polo Park as I know that area of town and knew I could locate the UHaul easily. This location on Dawson Rd was out of the way and confusing to get to but the service, etc at this location was fine.

Taylor BReported the item stolen without even calling or emailing ME. We had a snow storm and highways were shut down. Very scammy! I tried calling numerous times and no answer. They added fees with no communication and reported stolen. Now im assumed to just pay all the extra fees without question. Not interested in renting from uhaul anymore.
SVEN TI have rented trailers many times in the past. This trailer needs to be checked. It has a horrible shake at any speed. It was unpleasant to tow and I couldn't wait to be done with it. The attendant, while friendly, had no clue how to hitch up a trailer. He wrapped the safety chains around the hitch on my vehicle. I waited until he left, then did it properly.
CLIFFORD BArrived at location ( a gas station, not my chosen one), asked attendant to assist with unhooking trailer. Told me if I waited 15-20 minutes, unhelpful and didn’t seem to care.

Karlyn hi didnt want safe move coverage but when i went to pick up my uhaul it was added i dont know if i sgreed to it cuz the lasy was indian and i coudlnt hear her but ya got extra charge for coverage i didnt want and i didnt have enough money to pay
CHANTEL-LYNN CThe location is quite far out, what is concerning is that there is no paved area to park the car and I had to walk through mud and pot holes to get to the vehicle, then pull it around, then take the pictures. Also the washroom in this location was absoutely filthy!! Sink plugged, water leaking into a buckert. A vast improvement is needed if U-Haul wants to keep this location. The person I dealt with for U-Haul was organized and very helpful, had strong English skills.
ALISON JHad to do hook-up by myself because location was understaffed. Even worse when I returned the trailer as the hitch wouldn't release properly. Again there was no one to assist in a mud hole of a yard in the pouring rain These seems to be a common trait of the Uhaul dealers and franchises in Winnipeg. Take the money... no service

EMEKA OThis location was not good. The place was a dive. The yard has not been maintained and was very rough to drive on. The person went through the motions of going through check off list but was not friendly. St. Catharines was great, Winnipeg, not so much!!
DAVID DThey ripped me off for my deposit. I was supposed to get $20 back and the guy didn't want to give it to me. Promised me it would be on my credit card when I got home and it was not there. I could tell I was not going to get it because the guy seemed nervous like he was ripping me off. I want my money back. I will be filing a formal complaint. Where do I file a formal complaint?

MARIE DAbsolute joke for service. Called me less than 24hrs to tell me my truck wasn't available for a one way trip across pronvinces. I had to pay for movers and my stuff was damaged in the truck due to me not being able to be there for the move. Then charged me extra money for gas after drop off after the employee said we were good. WHAT A JOKE OF A BUSINESS MODEL
LESLIE RThe location and customer service were great. The man at the store was very patient and friendly. However, I was a little surprised by the total costs - you advertise your small truck for $20 but overall costs are way higher than that. It would be nice to advertise with more transparency.

STEVEN SThe cup holder was broken and just hung there, my son found a cigarette butt, lighter and bandaids in the holder in the door. When I was finished and swept it out it was apparent it had not been swept in some time as there was a lot of debris that was not from me. The moving pads were missing (didn’t need them anyway) however the empty bag hanging on the wall had become a trash receptacle full of chip bags and Tim’s coffee cups . The last minute change of location at my expense was also very unprofessional and inconvenient. Long story short, stay with the official U-Haul locations, I will going forward.
CHRISTOPHER UThis is not a reflection of the location itself, but rather the whole experience. I initially had a rental pickup in lorrette but when i got there the trailer did not have the light cord, as such i did not have any brake lights or turn signals. additionally i had to go to 2 different locations in lorrette to pick up as the staff did not know how to process it. upon finding the next available unit i had to go to winnipeg, A different city.(and the 3rd location in this story).. which added substantial time as i do not live near winnipeg. so with a crying kid, because it was supposed to be a quick trip i headed to Dawson location, my card was declined as my bank flagged it for being used in 2 uhauls in 2 different cities within an hour. As such I had to use my employees credit card, which is less then ideal I wish uhaul had some more competition as it's been a nightmare nearly every time.
BRETT HWhen I asked it the tire pressure had been checked, Himanish, who was working alone, told me that someone had been at work in the last few days so he didn't know... and he didn't offer to test them (other clients arrived so I went to get the haul while he attended to them). The paperwork said there was 1/4 tank of gas and the gas indicator was definitely 3/16, so he first told me he would give me 10-20$ of gas, then tried changing the level on the website, then eventually wrote a note on my paperwork. I think he did the best he could with this situation. I did feel less safe knowing the tries hadn't been tested... I also didn't notice the speedometer was in miles per hour for the first few minutes of my drive...This truck was in much better shape than the one I rented a year ago.. In the future, please let Canadian customers know the speedometer is in miles, and walk through some of the controls... how/when to turn on the tow/haul. lights in cab/overhead/ etc. Thanks

Adrian DThe staff was professional and fast. Close to perfect service. The trailer had one tire at 20psi instead of 65psi. I had to add air on my own. Not a big deal but it cost me 15 minutes I will never get back.
YURIY VWould have like the option to return to a different location within Winnipeg as we had to travel to south Winnipeg unexpectedly and was told by two different locations that there would be a charge to change the drop off location. Very frustrating...

YEVHENII TUhaul phoned me a couple days before to let me know that the location for pick up has changed due to equipment availability. I was then promised that mobile pick up would be setup since the location did not open till 9am and my original pick up time was 8am. I arrived shortly after 8am to pick up and could not proceed through the mobile app for the mobile pick up. It gave me a number to call to sort it out. During the phone call the representative informed me that the mobile pick up was not set up and informed me that the store could refund me $50 for not having the equipment ready. I asked the store clerk for the $50 refund and she refused. I expected Uhaul to commit to their policy and promise after the use of their vehicle but they do not want to commit to their policy or promise because I received the vehicle in a "timely" manner. The policy states that they give you $50 if the vehicle is not ready, which it wasn't, not if you could still get your vehicle.
STEPHEN KThis is a report an issue with the tow dolly I recently rented from your location. Upon pickup, I noticed that the left tail light on the dolly was not functioning, which is a safety hazard, especially during nighttime driving. Additionally, both tie-down ratchets were heavily rusted, making it very difficult and unsafe to secure the vehicle properly. These issues compromised both the safety and usability of the equipment, and I believe this unit should have been inspected and maintained more thoroughly before being rented out. TOMASZ PDropped off the trailer unassisted. Office was locked. Employee showed up and said the U-Haul server was down. I wanted a more official confirmation that they received that specific trailer. He said I could go and that he would check it later.
Pascal COne employee doing double duty with fuel station. The truck was left NOT swept out or clean in the cargo area, the appliance mover was NOT locked in and ZERO moving pads in the bag. Truck was left an almost a quarter tank and we were doing a distance move out and back (>75 km) x 2. Truck was super rough and painful over bumpy roads. Overall not impressed

RICHARD DNo drop off box wasted so much time on the phone with u haul trying to figure out where to drop the key off. Have to return tomorrow while business is open to drop keys off. This business looked like a dump.
Thomas MI arranged a pickup at one location within Winnipeg, and drop-off a another location within Winnipeg. When I talked to the person at the pickup location they told me to call the 1800 number because they couldn't put the drop off location as different, so I did. They arranged the pick and drop-off locations. When I went to get the trailer they tried to charge me 120$ for a 20$ trailer rental, at no point did anyone that I talked to say that it was going to be more than the 20$ standard fee. When I dropped off the trailer it got sorted out by a very nice guy, but I'm still not very impressed with the pickup location trying to charge me way more

In the middle of our interaction to get the U-Haul the person ask us to wait because she want to serve an another customer because she was waiting but it was ok to let us wait longer. She try to have all payment in cash.

EFIM WStop fucking over your customers with using the word "reservation" to describe their rental. U-Haul doesn't understand the meaning of the word "reservation". "Reservation" implies that you actually have a piece of equipment "reserved" for a specific customer at a specific time without changing the pickup location on said customer at the last minute.

I do not like receiving multiple calls, especially since I paid for the trailer and used it within my time Make phonecalls if someone is late. Not 1 day into a 2 day rental.
