My items were guaranteed on the 19th and they scheduled delivery on the 20th; those 2 days happend to be when uhaul was closed. Even better, I arrive on the 20th to pick up my stuff and they tell me they dont know where my box is! After being transferred numerous times over the phone (10+ times) and having to get stern with customer service they finally agreed to call me back the next day with an answer as to where my items are. Next day rolls around and no phone call; I called them back and again I was transferred numerous times (10+ times) before I finally got an answer. There was a shipping delay that I was not notified of which is why my box was late. I wouldn't have minded if they simply told me from the beginning that there was a shipping delay but instead they told me "I dont know where it is, its lost" which caused significant distress. Not one email or phone call to warn me that there was a shipping delay. My items arrived 3 days late, so much for "guaranteed delivery date". I have had a never ending nightmare than began with a chat rep cancelling my order. Movers showed up that were not experienced and left my items in the street. I had to leave most of my furniture because of poor packing of the pods. It took 6 hours for them to leave most of my belongings. The movers kept my belongings over night and delivered them to the Uhaul facility the following afternoon. The items did not ship until days later. My order that I thought was duplicated is now costing me an additional $1,000!? I was told that i would get an email or phone call to honor the original price given. The woman who delivered our U-Box had a nasty disposition and was quite rude. When she picked up our full U-Box, she was even more rude...got on her radio and we could hear whoever she was talking to just absolutely trash us because THEY got the RESERVATION wrong. We just wanted to add more things to our U-Box, but somehow that turned into us emptying it. Apparently this was a huge problem. Somehow this is OUR fault? We moved in July from Oakland, Calif., to a tiny, unincorporated, rural area in Northern Michigan. Estimates from regular moving companies were outrageous because of the distance, rural location, and pandemic-related migration, and PODS doesn't serve this part of rural Michigan, so we went with U-Haul's U-Boxes. The U-Boxes arrived on time, and Lula, the driver from Hayward, Calif., was excellent with drop-off and pickup. The U-Boxes arrived with no problems at the Houghton Lake, Mich., warehouse. We had to delay delivery from Houghton Lake to our rural town, and the staff handled that with no issues. The U-Boxes were delivered to our rural property on time, and I was pleased to see the Houghton Lake warehouse put new vinyl covers on all six of them, because it rains frequently here. We emptied the boxes in a day, and the driver arrived on time to take them away. I communicated frequently with Sandy, the manager of the Houghton Lake facility, and she was professional, friendly, and responsive and always followed through. She even gave me her cell number in case I needed to reach her in an emergency so I didn't get caught in the U-Haul toll-free phone system. Novella, the driver from Houghton Lake, was also easy to communicate with and professional and did a great job delivering our U-Boxes. Based on reviews I read before we proceeded with U-Haul, I was concerned about the U-Boxes breaking, collapsing, being crushed or breached, or admitting rain or pests into our belongings. NONE of that happened. The U-Boxes were still whole and unbreached (and even improved, with new vinyl covers) when they arrived at our final destination. All our stuff arrived on one piece; nothing broken. All in all, I would recommend U-Boxes, and I was very pleased with the service from U-Haul staff at the Coliseum location in Oakland, Calif.; the Hayward warehouse, and the Houghton Lake warehouse.Kathryn S.

Our boxes arrived 17 days late. In the meantime they kept charging us for the storage fees. Once we got our pods dropped off. It took them 7 days to pick them up. Had issues with charges for the boxes - pick up wasn't available on the day where I wouldn't be charged for an extra month of storage, so I was promised that I wouldn't be charged. Delivery was also VERY different from drop off, where boxes weren't able to be placed as we wanted them because they were dropped off on a trailer and not with a forklift. The transport to Hayward was good, but the Moving Help movers fell through two days in a row and I spent hours on the phone being passed around to different teams / lines / people within U-Haul. Overall, the move did not go smoothly due to the customer service. I was apprehensive because you dont always receive that great of service renting uhaul trucks but wow the team did a fantastic job with communication, timeliness and concern to ensure my needs were met. Also I want to mention that the website to book the Uhaul boxes is so easy to use, make edits and upload photos. I looked into PODS container shipping and all they do is ask you to call them, they dont let you make the decisions like Uhaul boxes do. Why would I want to take an extra step to call the company that should be serving me and make it easy? A 7-day trip from Hayward to Cincinatti took 8 weeks and they even charged me for storage in Cincinatti because they couldn't figure out how to deliver the POD. They gave us a lot of pads which is more than what you need and that makes the box space smaller, you also cannot give them the extra pads as it comes with the box or you will have to pay the pads $6:50 each. In san francisco they do not deliver the box to your home address but will deliver it to their uhaul station with $100 charge. They are also hard to contact .Erna V.

When my wife left me, U-Box policy would not let me retrieve my goods from storage. I had been paying and have been the only one paying on the storage unit. This has cost me thousands of dollars. They also have been overcharging me for the past two or three years, which is hundreds of dollars. My experience getting my box delivered was AWFUL. It took 12 phone calls on my end to get the box delivered on the right day (and even then it was over an hour later than I was told it would be, with no phone call or indication as to why). People in Hayward and Santa Clara that I spoke with were rude and unhelpful. The only way I was ever able to get anything done was by calling the 800 number. The delivery driver left me unable to open the box and drove away while I was talking to her. The whole experience was frustrating and unbelievable.Katherine J.

I was lied to when I called the 1-800 uhaul number I called twice to make sure that my Unix would be in time. Both times I was told it would be at the address provided on the original date I was given even though online it said it was going to arriving at the facility near me that day. I called the warehouse the day it was supposed to be delivered and they hadn't even gotten the Ubox yet and informed me that they don't do same day delivery.
