Signage to know where the office is located. Current signs are all about vehicles but no signs for arriving renters to be directed to the office. The service for the pick up was not good. I can understand that there is a new protocol due to the Virus but even it was really complicated, lost of time. And mostly people were not really nice and completely helpless. disappointed about the pick up. The return was a complete different experience with a nice guys to assist you and very professional. The staff seemed uninterested in being helpful. Did not say hello on 3 occasions of coming to the store. Fix your app. It is absolutely TERRIBLE. I couldn't get my truck because the experience of reserving through the app was messed up and one of the worst ways to procure a product. Your own employees said as much because they must deal with this constantly. On the flip side, the employees themselves were outstanding at making sure I was taken care of and helping me navigate this issue.Christopher M.

Your mobile check-in is quite frustrating. It's possible I missed it, but before I went it showed that I was all pre-checked in so I don't understand your â€œapprovalâ€ process before the vehicle can be taken. Why not allow for someone to upload their passport before they go to the pickup location so that there isn't a wait? The option to call someone else could also be planned for better if you told people in advance.CHAD M S.

Don't lie about how much gas is in the truck. I took a picture before we left and there is clearly a half tank or less and the tech wrote 3/4 of a tank on our form. I was also charged for 2 dollies when I only had one. Deceptive practices 100% and I will unlikely ever use a uhaul company again.ADAM K.
The truck needed an alignment and wheel balance. My drive was 11 hours on the highway while constantly having to pull the wheel to the left. There were a decent amount of vibrations through the wheel at most highway speeds.HOWARD M.
I did everything online and chose the options from what I knew we could afford. One small trip with one item bought from a place 3 miles away. I did not need any insurance or extras and not to mention the truck tires were covered in mud and it needed to be washed. Anyway, I sent my husband in to pick up the truck and because the â€˜super easy' online equipment checkout wasn't working they asked him to get insurance after I already chose no for insurance on a completed reservation! Then when I called and asked about it after the fact I was told â€˜once they choose, I can't undo it'. Interesting that I originally chose NOT to add an additional 25$ for a 7 mile drive, but somehow THAT could be undone. My original order of $25 somehow turned into $66 and that's before the gas I put in. Next time I'll just get a dolly that includes movers, actual furniture dollys, and is on time with no hassle and finally getting our truck 30 min later. Do yourself a favor and download the dolly app and never come here for a rental. Absolutely ridiculous.JOHN F.

The truck was not in the parking lot as indicated when I tried to pick it up. Uhaul called my second listed alternative contact instead of calling me for updates. The website kept giving me error notifications when I tried to check out and said I couldn't leave yet. I had to go inside, yet again, and wait in line until someone could verify that it did in fact go through and I could leave. The whole process was not remote as I had requested due to Covid concerns.Carly N.
I asked specifically for 750 miles and was given the contract where it said over 900 miles. I asked the owner why this was the case and he said well you have up to that amount and I asked if I would be charged for all those miles. He said I would only be charged how far I went. After I came back after hours to return my rented truck, whoever closed up left very little space to enter the lot. (It was basically blocked by all the trucks that were already in the lot). The original drop-off location refused to accept the drop-off because they had no room on their lot. I called U-Haul and was directed to a 2nd drop-off location (1900 W. Division, Chicago), and they too refused the drop-off. I called U-Haul again and was directed to the Fullerton location - successfully dropped-off truck. Attendant said I drove too many miles and requested the dolly, which I told him I was not provided. He suggested I contact U-Haul, share these difficulties and ask that I not be charged for the dolly of excessive miles. I've summarized my experience here and I will notify U-Haul by other means.Jon R.
I asked the front desk if I needed to bring the furniture pads and dolly I rented from the store with me to the trailer. Was told no, it would be with the trailer. It was not with the trailer. I tried calling the local number on the contract multiple times to rectify the situation. No answer. Finally sat on hold for 45 minutes before getting the call center. The agent there just told me not to worry about it. And to get it addressed I would need to call the store. which again resulted in 15 minutes of hold time. At which point I figured I was in an infinite loop. I returned with the trailer early to the lot labeled "Customer Equipment Return". After waiting several minutes, somone finally came by and told me I was in the wrong place. I had to back out the trailer onto Fullerton Ave (not fun), circle in Lincoln Park, and then pull into a small building entryway with a steep ramp. If they would have just let me know that when I was checking out the equipment that it needed to be returned inside the garage instead it would have made things a lot less stressful. Everytime I raised a concern throughout this process, I was greeted with a quizzacle "What's the big deal" type response. I was able to get a refund on the pads/dolly that I never received. So, that was good. I would not recommend renting a trailer from this store.John A.

Clean and inspect the vehicle between each customer. Especially given the COVID-19 Pandemic the truck was filthy and there was a leftover used steak knife in the truck. Once this was discovered I immediately called the location and arranged to return the truck for a new one. The customer service representative at this location first suggested that I "put a glove on and throw it away". No understanding or offering to send a new truck over, or to bring in that truck. I had to suggest myself returning the truck for a new one. This is unacceptable customer service. As my first time renting with uhaul this was a horrible first impression of the company.ADAM M.

I reserved a storage space 2 months ago, I show up yesterday and they say the only one available is not only smaller than what I reserved but also more expensive. Completely unacceptable. I had to throw away items because they wouldn’t fit. This will be the last time I ever use uhaul for storage and I can promise you I will be telling every one I know to never use uhaul for storage in Chicago. I was screwed over by Public Storage who assigned me a unit half the size I needed and were closed on the day I needed to move in. The gentleman who signed me up and checked me in was unbelievably rude and contrary. He should not be in a job where he deals with the public. I am older and dealing with mobility issues. I wanted the biggest unit that was easy to access and without stairs or difficult corners. He refused to try and help me until I told him how much space I needed, I repeated my requirements. He showed me the location of a couple on the map that were very difficult to access. Another employee overheard the conversation and suggested a unit that was large and very easy to access. I got there to take all my items out of my unit and a lock that wasn't mine was on the unit -- not one of the "you didn't pay you fee" locks, just a lock that wasn't mine. We called for some help and were rudely told by Rick, who I believe is actually the owner, that we had the wrong long. No one ever told us what the "right" lock was, but it seems like it was just a ploy on UHaul's end to steal more money from customers. When I reserved the storage unit for my daughter I called out all items that needed to be stored. The Uhaul customers service on the phone said a split would work & assigned me a unit. When I called to confirm reservation a different representative said I probably need a bigger one but did not tell me that in order to put items into it you had to go up 4 stairs to a landing & then lift stuff into unit. This was extremely hard & inconvenient for 2 petite girls in college. So the person at the actual facility gave them the option of getting a 2nd unit that was smaller to put their boxes in where they could manage it themselves because they didn’t have to go up stairs with them. The movers are going to put the 4 pieces of furniture in the bigger one which will have room left over. All other units were unavailable. So basically they have no other choice at this point but to spend extra money which they themselves did not have & rent 2 storage units when in actuality they only needed 1 large unit. Had it not been for the customer service person who gave me inadequate information on which unit to rent & did not tell me they would have to physically carry stuff up stairs, I could have gotten a large unit when I made the initial reservation. I even asked “Is there an elevator” she said yes. But failed to say that they would still have stairs to go up. I am out of state so I had to trust the customer service rep on the phone with the information she gave me. I am angry that we have to pay for 2 units when all we needed was one & I did call in enough advance time to have gotten just one. The staff member who helped show me to my unit was helpful, but the employee working the register/in the office was clearly way overwhelmed. She was the only person working, and was taking about 20 minutes+ per/customer. I waited in line (with only one person in front of me) for about 40 minutes just to get shown my unit and get the keys. I had to pay my movers another $200 to wait for an hour because she took so long with each customer. On top of all of that, when I came back to uhaul later that day, my access card didn't even work- hadn't even been an hour since I received it/activated it. Overall it was a horrible experience and very unorganized. There needed to be more staff members working, and the ones who were working need to have a sense of urgency and efficiency, to understand people may not have all day to wait for them to finish chit chatting with the customers while there is a long line of customers waiting. Negative: Received a call the night before we were supposed to pick up the truck telling us that it was double booked and we'd need to go to a different location much further away. That being said, we reserved a truck 2 days before we needed it and it was on a very very busy moving weekend. When trying to re-book, we were on hold for at least 20 minutes each time we called. Positive: We drove back to Chicago during the riots and we were unable to put our stuff in the storage unit bc of the riots. Elevator is broken for the second day now with no way to access the large items. No contingency plan- no carts on upper floors to at least roll items to staircase, no door stoppers for staircase doors. Email should have been sent to all renters letting know of the issue so people do not show up with help, rented truck to find out that items can be accessed. I spoke to several reps about this rental, and everyone was extremely helpful and kind.
