Equipment was clean, but the rear door malfunctioned when the truck was half loaded. Roadside assistance arrived within one hour and replaced cables, but bearing on one side was shot. The team made the door sufficiently workable so that move could be completed, but at least two hours were lost, pushing end of move into the evening hours.Brian T.

Our U-Haul died half way to our new home we finally got it started and in front of the neighbor's house. Had to unload from there. Roadside finally came and towed it away the next afternoon. I had also reserved two lorries to make moving easier. The cashier simply said they didn't have any and that I could buy one if I wanted. This was an extreme inconvenience for an already stressful moving day. The online checkout was impossible to navigate on either of our phones due to location/data issues. I was extremely disappointed how slow the renting procedure was. There were two clerks in attendance, but only one was active and the process took a very long time. Then, the open clerk waited while her customers selected the boxes to purchase (which they should have done beforehand. the clerks did not pay any attention to the folks waiting in line. Uhaul only provided 3 blankets instead of 3 dozen blankets. So I had to make a return trip to collect the rest of the blankets. It was very inconvenient to have our pick up location changed to topaz from Sidney as our place we were moving from was in Sidney. They also told us that to extend our rental we could just call the drop off location by 5 on our last day and it wouldn't be an issue.Alexander S.

the service was absolutely awful, my first reservation was lost and then my 9am reservation turned into a 6pm and then from 6pm to 12pm when i needed it at 9am! I will never being using Uhaul again and i'm severely disappointed in the service i received. I would not recommended your company to anybody and would quite honestly like a refund or partial refund. Honour the reserved agreement -- UHaul (not this specific location) changed the pick-up location and size of truck less than 24 hours prior to scheduled pick-up at greater expense and significant inconvenience. It required my paying cab fare to get to the location where my reserved location was within reasonable walking distance. UHaul didn't care when I explained my situation and to get the smaller truck size I had reserved would have required travelling to another town. The larger truck required a fresh reservation with BC Ferries and due to the size I was forced to pay the commercial crossing fee which was more than double what the original 10 foot truck would have cost me.Shelley L.

Ensure that the back of the truck is swept out before renting it out to the next customer. Mine was not. The check out process took 20 minutes using the app. It is supposed to be quick and easy. It was NOT. It would have been easier to go inside the old way. I had to go inside anyway to get my key!!! WTH! I used the app because I wanted to minimize contact due to Covid. I had to wait for the person inside to give me my key because she was busy helping someone else. Yes, only ONE person working inside and about 10 outside. Big surprise for me- upon return of the truck- I get to have MORE contact with another person. This is NOT how the video of showed this was supposed to transpire. Added kick in the pants? After the delay getting the truck, I still had to get the truck back at the original time. So I LOST that 20 minutes of rental time.Marcel D.
My driving experience was fine, but my booking experience was awful. It was impossible to reach the location by phone and I kept getting bumped around from one impersonal phone number to another. I spent hours on 1-800 numbers waiting to talk to someone. And I was never able to reach the phone number listed for the Topaz Ave location in Victoria BC. I am a very dissatisfied customer. Your records may show that I have been a long time, long distance client since 2000. This ended today. 1. I made it clear that my rental would require approximately two hours. My car, however, had to depart with me to locate metered street parking. This is caring about the customer? 2. The clerk, through plexiglass and a language barrier, failed to clearly state terms of the agreement. Current fuel price is +/- $1.50 . The invoice charge: $5.05 per litre. I expect a business to earn a profit - a fair profit. This is usurpery, Old business adage: The cost of acquiring a client is three times as much as keeping a client. The main doors in, and the elevator are in general disrepair and are regularly broken down, prohibiting easy access. Organizing obtaining new units for rent was almost impossible, b/c online and telephone systems are poorly updated. However the staff were exceptionally helpful in a stressful time, and made it possible to take on a number of units that online systems weren't aware of. There is another gap in online systems between HQ accounting systems (where bills are paid) and the local accounting teams. We regularly paid bills and still received notice for payments needed. The facility is dramatically understaffed at the month's end, when transition is high. The staff are helpful, and thoughtful, but ill-equipped to handle priorities at the end and beginning's of the calendar month. However, mid-month, the staffing levels enable appropriate service. Lastly, the local truck-rental systems feel scammy...taking reservations for trucks in one office, and then making the customer drive 20k in both directions to pick up and drop off the trucks, and then charging them for the KMs. Poor business tactics.Mark H. | Overall Experience

Vehicle was very high mileage, lots of Xs on it maybe 40 +. No convenient parking. App very confusing. Terrible experience! We got to the location and saw the truck we reserved, but could not sign in online. We went to the location for assistance but told they are only providing parking for Uhaul. We called customer services and was on hold for 40 min, then was told the truck we reserved was not checked in by the location manager from its last service. Then we got redirected to scheduling and told the issue was resolved and asked us to try to sign in online again. That did not work then we called back the scheduling department, and we were told there was problem with the truck GPS and asked us to go to another Uhaul location. By now we have wasted 90 minutes! Finally we picked up the truck at another Uhaul location. When we returned the truck and apparently we were told we didn't put enough gas (1/15 short) and there was going to be an additional $10 charge because of it. Needless to say the customer services were little to be desired! Never use Uhaul again!David T.
Horrible customer service and no parking. I arrived to get my 10' truck and pulled out the truck and put my suv in the space I got it from. The guy out side comes to tell me I can not park there because other trucks could come throughout the day. I said â€œsorry, where would you like me to parkâ€ he said â€œdoesn't matter but not on our propertyâ€. I was by my self during this process. Clearly I have a car and just rented a truck. I asked again, what do I do with my car. The guy said you can park on the street parking 200 meters away but you will get towed after 90 minutes. Then he told me to park at Mayfair shopping mall 1km away and walk back. This is what I had to do. This is crazy and discriminating as I recently had an injury to my knee and had to walk 1km to pick up my truck I rented just so I won't get towed by U-Haul or the city of Victoria. Complete garbage. I picked up the truck on a busy Saturday, although I had pre-booked and pre-checked in. The checkout process by the time I drove the truck away took 1 hour and 20 minutes. Hi. When I picked up the truck fuel level empty. And the person at the counter said bring it quarter tank and they will reimburse it. So I take the the truck to gas station to fuel quarter before I do my job it cost $72.27 and after I finish my job I fuel and $23 to bring it quarter tank and I drove only 18 miles. I asked the county person to reimburse $72.27 but he did only $60 . I spent my own time and couple of km to fuel first and still I am not getting my fuel money back.Madheswaran P.

I would have liked to have seen the debut machine clean. It looked like it hadn't been clean in a few weeks and was dirty. But the truck itself was extremely clean!!! The 10ft truck worked well. No issues with that. I had rented it for 4 hours. They have a lot of trucks to rent hence why I went to this location. The only issue I had was that the truck leaked oil into my driveway. I was in a hurry and forgot to mention that to the clerk when I returned it. Hence why I gave an average review instead of higher. Now I have to buy a product to get rid of the oil stains from my driveway.KULDIP D.

The customer service in the beginning of the transaction was okay. The girl was decently polite though it was obvious she was not a huge fan of her job. The real problem started when I went to return the vehicle. When I went inside the customer service area to return the keys and confirm my invoice, I was rather rudely told to just return the key to the guy outside. When I went outside to return the key to the guy, he was so busy speaking with his fellow employees about non-work related topics that I had to interrupt the conversation to get any type of assistance. Once the guy took the keys he very quickly hurried me out by doing a quick look over and then telling me I would receive my invoice within the next 20 minutes. When I asked to receive one on the spot, he informed me it would be emailed to me. I then waited over 2.5 hours to receive the invoice. When it didn't come through I called uhaul wondering what happened. After waiting on the phone for 35 minutes the gentleman on the phone (who was completely lovely) informed me that the vehicle had been marked as a no show return. Which means that the employee never checked us back in. He said he would make a comment on my file and someone would be in contact tomorrow. Uhaul owes me money for the km I did not use and I do not want to be charge ANY type of late fee. I have pictures proving that I returned it on time, in good condition, less mileage than paid for and a full tank of gas. I want my money returned and my invoice sent. I will NEVER recommend this location to another person as I cannot trust the reliability of the employees.Shaylene S.

After having used the Excellent U-Haul Facility in Winnipeg on Empress I was severly disappointed in the moldy storage facility in Victoria. Every bedding item I owned mold smell and needed to be replaced including matress. Having no heat and no circulation is a big part of the problem. The check-in counter is understaffed. Check-in was 20+ minute wait. Your check-out process is broken. The counter person had called a week before my next months fee was due. At this time I informed her that the locker was empty, cleaned and that I was done with it. She seemed confused needed to check locker and would call back. Nothing? She calls again two days before the rent is due. I state what I had said earlier. Now she says it may be too late to NOT pay for another month. I going "what"? I explain again and she say she will call me back. That's the last I heard of her. Wow that place is too busy and too understaffed. Moldy and Damp. Storage area itself was fine but the organization was not. We were told at 7pm that the facility was closing when the website says we have access until 10. Parking and trying to find a spot to load/unload the truck was a nightmare. The online move out tool for storage does not function well at all, and the manager did not check up on this which resulted in me getting an email about owing the next month's rent as well as a late charge, and having to call corporate customer service because the location did not answer their phone. There are definitely mice in the building and I found their feces in some of my belongings. The uhaul lit was extremely crowded with vehicles when I wanted to unload my items, and I was lucky the truck I needed was right next to the storage loading/unloading area. Staff were very helpful in helping to move trailers Out of the way so I could actually back the truck up. Another person was unloading at the same time, but there wasn’t enough room for them. The manager was the type of person who wanted to take every penny he could squeeze from you, but wanted to offer the most terrible experience at a uhaul in Canada. Compared to the uhaul storage I used in Ontario, the Victoria Topaz location was terrible. There were rats in the storage lockers. For some reason the facility was NOT secured and there were homeless people inside walking around. One time I went to remove my things from storage and someone had left all their items on the only elevator the previous day and instead of quickly cleaning it up so that other customera could use the elevator, they left the elevator closed off completely for 24 hours. Therefore, I could not take anything out of storage that day and it was a waste of time. I will continue to use uhaul but not this specific location until there isa a management change. Horrible experience. We will never use U-Haul again We booked a truck for contactless pick up so we could make a specific ferry reservation. We got a call a week later saying we have to pick it up Later in the AM and miss our ferry or the night before and return it late with a fee. I had to call back and fight to not pay for that extra Time that I was forced to take. I arrive at storage locker and they have no lockers available with the square footage I reserved. I was then told “reservations mean nothing” and that I could only have a smaller storage locker with 60sqft less. My house can’t fit in it. The storage lockers are dirty and made of old wood with wire cage walls separating the units. We ran into another customer there who said they had a hug and rodent problem and were pulling their items out. After 1.5 hours of waiting for them to find a solution I was finally forced to drive to drive 45 minutes to a different storage company and pay more money to store else ware. They were AMAZING. Actual customer service, they gave us free flat decks because we had been Screwed around by U-Haul so long and they brought us out ice water to keep us going. I will be calling to get my storage locker insurance refunded and will also be inquiring about why our trip cost $1000 when the owner of a neighborhood store said he had never seen one over $400 Vancouver to Victoria. The staff at the local facility do the best they can with a flawed system. I had numerous positive experiences with staff member Abhin Jose. Access via the card reader-operated door or through the roller door was numerous times out of order during my two-month use of the facility. It was subsequently fixed, but half my experiences at the facility were with broken doors (though not insecure). Such things happen. The real problem is with U-Haul's system. It allows customers to reserve storage online regardless of the facility's availability so that they can not honour everyone's reservations. I was one of the lucky ones; I'd have been hugely inconvenienced had I not been as I had a truck full of furniture from out of town. As it was, I was only moderately inconvenienced by the resulting disorganisation. I also had to pay a full month's rent for the final week of use as the system does not parse rentals for any less than a month. Charge as you will with your business model, U-Haul, but that isn't very customer-friendly. Knowing this now, I will seek to use a storage competitor in future who can charge pro rata at least by week. Finally, the problems of the U-Haul system are intertwined with the self-service problems online, which I won't even begin to address. Suffice to say this is not the facility's problem but the U-Haul organisation's. My overall experience and note of others' complaints leaves me with the impression there is little appetite at the corporate level to address such systemic failures so I have low confidence anything will change, nor indeed that this feedback will even make it to the right ears.Geoffrey M. | Overall Experience
