The truck was the worst driving experience with uhaul I have ever had. The headlights point directly down to the road in front of the truck and the left lamp Was loose and bouncing all over the place while hitting bumps. Couldn't see without using high beams but couldn't use them much due to traffic. Couldn't go more that Mmmmmmm an 45mph on the highway last night turning a 5 hour trip into a 7 hour trip. I am very impressed by how much the counter staff tries so hard to process all the customers, but sadly are faced with chronic staffing shortages. These guys are trying really, really hard to make the rental experience a good one, a FAST one, but are left apologizing for how long it takes to get everyone checked in because of short staff These guys should be getting BONUSES for carrying the weight of short staffing challenges. They also do not seem to have enough yard space to accommodate equipment returns and equipment trying to leave after, compounding the staff shortage problem. My compliments to the location staff for working their hearts out trying so hard to be great. U-haul should be PROUD of these guys (and throw in some extra $$ to recognize them and KEEP them for being such good, hard workers). Now go hire some more people to do this business RIGHT (and PAY these guys what they're worth).Eric D.

Poor drainage at the facility caused us major damage and losses when flooding occurred, affecting both of our units, both drive-up and inside. Staff were very helpful in the recovery/clean-up effort, but losses may or may not be covered by U-Haul. It is beyond insane you would send me a survey after what your company did… my possessions were insured through you. You found a loop hole in the paperwork and chose not to insure our goods. I responded to your inquiry and you still took the liberty of throwing away uninsured items within 24 of your contact after waiting almost two weeks to contact me about the event. What your company did is criminal. I am not threatening action as I know you work for an entity who would rather waste money than do the right thing. So yeah… not very “content”. The person behind the counter gave me a key to a van and gave me directions to a van. At that location, there was only one van parked. However, apparently, I had a rental agreement for van #1943 but the van parked and the keys I was given were van #1944. I didn't realize this until I tried to return the vehicle about 1 hour later. The lady behind the counter made this out to me my fault even though she had presented me with the key and directions to the wrong van. We spent the next 1.5 hours at the U-Haul facility with the lady behind the counter trying to figure out what to do. At one time, she indirectly accused us of having stolen van #1943 (Thankfully her colleague pointed out that we had driven up in van #1944.) In the end, she charged us twice (once for van #1943 and once for van #1944) even though we had only rented the one. [I then spent another 75 minutes on the phone getting that refunded.] She never once apologized to us. Mind you, I had a six-week old infant with me and ended up having to feed her while we were discussing the fees with her - it was just taking too long. Too be fair, she tried to call others for help but they basically told her they also didn't know how to handle it. When she did get hold of the manager, he walked her through some steps, however, she had failed to properly explain the full situation to him. And although the lady behind the counter provided me with documentation supposedly stating she had voided the first contract for van #1943, I was called two days later inquiring when I intended to return the van. When I called U-Haul to cancel the charges, I had also said I would like to provide direct feedback. I was told the manager would be in touch with me. It has been more than a week and I still haven't heard back from him.DINA R.

Arguably, this is the biggest location in Bend, OR and yet it was staffed by two (2) people. The line of trucks at the drop off was so long that I basically parked on the entry. The only person trying to inspect the trucks was so loaded that his only interaction with me was a request to move the truck forward after he made a narrow alley to pass a 15 footer. The line was long so i resorted to a online option and dropped the keys in the after hours drop box.Vlad L.

The signage was terrible, there was nothing saying where to go to pick up or where to park or do I park in a line? We had all done ALL of our check in stuff online yet it took 10+ minutes per customer to check out so I waited 40 minutes to get a trailer assignedâ€¦, then they sent me out and said someone would come to get me hooked up but no one did. So after another 15 minutes, I went to find the poor guy doing hookups. Everyone in Bend is understaffed and the people were doing their best. It just seemed soooo disorganized.Julie B.

How can it be that complicated to just hand my license to a live person. Where has customer service gone? I filled up the truck with gas before I saw the very small print that claimed I had rented a truck, not the van I had reserved, if you could refund me $30.00 for the gas that would be swell. We had problems with the overdrive not operating as it should. When accelerating, the truck many times would not shift into D until we were going 60. Big waste of gas. Some times when stopped, the truck would accelerate with out touching the petal. Please check this out.Michael M.

The problem is not with the individual dealers. U Haul seems to have infrastructure issues. Phone calls are routinely put on hold for 30 minutes or more. Email notification of changes is nonexistent or late. Inventory is inadequate. I have rented with U Haul many times, and this was far and away the worst customer experience. I also find it interesting that the review only lists the two locations, but not the company experience in general. This is a great way to deflect criticism of the corporation.Jon B.

I never received clear documentation about pickup/drop-off times and was actually directed to a location for pick-up that doesn't even carry trailers. Deadlines are important information in this process and seemed elusive without waiting on hold for very long periods with partial information actually needed.Jennifer L.
I was given the key to a van and pointed in the direction where a single van was parked. The key fit, so I filled out the form (without checking the mileage) and took off. I was back within 75 minutes to return the van - this is where the fun started. It turned out the van I took was 1944, but my rental agreement was for 1943. (The key was also for 1944.) so of course, I couldn't check the vehicle back in because I officially never took it out. Brenda at the counter first accused me of stealing van 1943, then told me I couldn't have taken 1944 because it was â€˜red' in her system, etc. it took more than 1.5h to sort of settle the affair without me risking being accused of stealing a van. In the end, I was charged twice - once for 1943 and once for 1944 - and had to call back into u-haul (wait time 55minutes!) to get the charges for 1943 at least reversed. In the mean time, I had to breastfeed my infant daughter in the u-haul location because a supposedly quick drop off took forever. And the lady behind the counter, who issued me the key initially, never even apologized but was busy blaming everybody else for the problems. To be fair, any time she called someone for help internally they said they also didn't know how to fix the situation. When she eventually reached the manager (on his day off I assume), she had a difficult time explaining the problem resulting in him giving her incomplete information (due to the miscommunication). Online was confusing and somehow my payment went through but the page kept giving me errors and forced me to put in 3 completely different phone numbers in order to go through. Hi I actually didn't end up using the unit and called u-haul less than 24 hrs later to cancel. The help line said to go to the store and they can refund you if you hadn't used it yet. That worked out fine but I was still charged 9.95 for a lock that I never received? I'm not sure if the lock was already attached to the unit because I never went to unit itself. All I know is I have a charge for a lock that was never given to me. I would please like a refund or lock, either way is fine. Thank you and have a great day. I almost was not able to get the size storage unit I reserved a month ago. There were 5 different people on the list for the same size (5x10) and there was only one unit available. I just so happened to be the first to check in. Now the other 4 people will not get the unit they reserved. This system makes no sense. Why would u-haul let you reserve a storage unit and then not have any available?? The system should show when units will be available and only allow you to reserve accordingly. Was easy to get storage the same day. Was the only place that was open and easy to deal with on a Sunday. No contracts so it was easy to close our account once the storage was emptied out too. The only thing I would recommend is making the website a little more user friendly for online pay. This was the only bill I have had to call and pay over phone every month because the website wouldn't do what I needed and then I didn't trust it to take my payment and apply it correctly. I use apps, phones, electronic payments and all those things all the time so I am not technology illiterate.
