Great operation
THOMAS H | Overall ExperienceTo whom it may concern I am writing to express my concern regarding my recent experience with U-Haul and, specifically, the lack of access to my storage units when I needed them. The young man who assisted me with renting a truck on Saturday was also the employee who helped me rent storage space on Sunday. I originally requested a 10' x 10' unit, but since one was not available, he provided me with two 5' x 5' units. While this was not ideal, I agreed because I needed the storage space immediately. He was very pleasant and helpful throughout the process. Before finalizing the rental, I specifically asked whether the storage facility had 24-hour access. I was told, "Yes, you can come and go whenever you need access." I was very relieved to hear this because I was in the process of moving my belongings and needed the flexibility to unload the truck when I returned. I went back to the house and, with the help of my daughter and son, loaded the truck. My daughter is a new mother and was already exhausted, and my son was also helping despite having other obligations. We needed to have everything out of the house because the owners were moving in the following day. We returned to U-Haul at approximately 11:00 p.m. with a truck full of my belongings, only to discover that we could not access the storage facility. I tried my new access card several times, but each attempt was denied. We were tired, hot, and exhausted after spending the day moving. We then used the buzzer to request assistance, only to realize that no one was responding. We called the number posted for assistance and were instructed to leave a message. We left two messages but received no response that night. By then, it was after midnight. At that point, I was left with a truck full of my belongings and no way to unload it. It was late, we were exhausted and hungry, and I still had to be back at work in Hudson the following morning. My daughter offered to let me stay at her house rather than make the 45-minute drive home, and my son had to drive out to Princeton. None of this was part of the plan. I had rented the truck with the expectation that I would be able to unload it into my storage units that evening and return the truck once it was empty. Because I was unable to access the storage facility as I had been promised, I have now had to keep the truck for additional days and incur additional charges. It is now Tuesday, and I am still trying to resolve the situation. I was able to unload approximately half of the truck last night and plan to unload the remainder tonight. This means I am continuing to pay for a truck that I originally needed for only one night. When I finally received a response to the messages I had left, I was told: > "I apologize. My team is usually pretty on point when we explain the storage. I will have a discussion with them on this though. I apologize for the inconvenience it caused you." I appreciate the apology, but unfortunately, this was more than an inconvenience. I relied on the information provided to me when I rented the storage units, and because I was given incorrect information regarding 24-hour access, I have incurred additional truck rental expenses, experienced significant inconvenience, and had to rearrange my plans and rely on family for assistance. I am requesting that U-Haul review this situation and consider reimbursing me for the additional truck rental charges that resulted directly from my inability to access the storage facility as promised. I would appreciate a prompt response and a fair resolution to this matter. Sincerely Cathy
