First, the pricing. The hidden costs and the mileage fee was a surprise. I looked online. It's supposed to be somewhere between $0.40 to $0.80, $0.89 on the high side. But I did a bunch of searching after the fact on the U-Haul site, and it looks like everything's being charged $1.09 per mile, which is ludicrous. I helped my kid move just across town, and they saw the $29 rental, and then it wound up costing over $100 in the end, a total of 40 miles. Customer service was great at this location. Super friendly. Great experience there. However, it was a rainy night, and I had to walk across a gravel lot and find the truck. It wasn't prepped like most locations, and it was a little bit sketchy. The truck was fine. It did the job, but I found that the light in the back wasn't working, so I had to go get a light from the house. Then I noticed that somebody detached the connector, and then I realized it's because the truck's switch for the light was really hard to use. Then again, this had probably over 130,000 miles on it, and it was a bit dated. The switch was hard to trigger. The only real gripe was probably the windshield wipers that needed to be replaced, because it was raining that night, and I was stuck on 440. They squeaked, and they barely worked. Despite these annoyances, the experience was good, but the per mileage rate means I'm probably going to find an alternative in the future, until you guys bring those rates down. It's highway robbery. There's no justification for charging over a dollar a mile on a truck with this age, and the price of gas, what it is. $1.09 a mile. Seriously? Get with the times. Be nice to consumers. Stop advertising $30 truck rentals when you're just ripping them off on the mileage rates. Most people don't catch that.It's almost false advertising when you can just dial a knob and then charge what you want. It's not even advertised clearly.
