For starters, the vehicle had a $40 gas credit, with 16 miles to empty - with gas prices what they are....it took us $85 just to fill the tank halfway before we got to our first destination of the night. I am pregnant and was not expecting to sit there for over an hour waiting to get in contact with someone because the app wasn't working. The cargo area smelled of gasoline, the inside of the cab smelled like smoke, and the U-Haul reservation was "timed out" because I had reserved it for an after-hours pickup for 5:30 pm, but did not arrive (drove 2 hours from Charlotte) to pick up the vehicle by 6:30 pm, and I could not get it checked out. We finally got the reservation rescheduled for 7:30 pm after calling customer service. The app was no help and did nothing. I have not used U-Haul in over a year because this has become the norm. I am a Penske person through and through because customer service still matters to them. The one saving grace was the woman who stayed at the location 2 hours after our reservation began to help adjust our reservation information. Nowhere did the app, email, or confirmation state that we had an hour window to pick this vehicle up to begin our reservation - literally insane since it was after hours.
