First, we were given the equipment ID number and told to go out on the lot, find it, and hook it up ourselves. There was no offer of assistance. When we told the manager on duty that one of the tires on the car dolly was underinflated, he was unaware of the condition and told us that was not his responsibility. He stated that a 'division level' group periodically surveyed the equipment and they were responsible for its condition. When we asked him to communicate the issue to a higher level, he told us to do this ourselves - he was afraid there would be ramifications from corporate if he did it and they might even pull the franchise from him. I can only say "Let the buyer beware" when renting from U-haul as their sites vary greatly in service and commitment. Check your tire pressures, oil levels for engines, lights, etc.
David HI really needed a van & one not available
Dorothy HThis location is the only U-Haul location I have ever been to where you have to hook up your own trailer. These trailers are not lightweight. If assistance in hooking up the trailer is not goi g to be offered, then the trailers need tongue jacks. Not everyone is physically able to lift and turn the trailer to get it onto a hitch. This location tells you to go get the trailer, then bring back to the front of building so they can verify proper hookup. If I have to hook it up myself, then I shouldn’t have to waste more time to go back to building to verify I have done their job correctly. I selected I would not refer a friend on the principal that if they are not able to lift the trailer tongue they would not be able to hook it up themselves. Additionally I understand verifying the hookup, but if not properly hooked up. The damage to the tow vehicle and or trailer could happen between hookup and driving back to the building.
