It seemed an odd place to go for a Uhaul rental - BUT the service was friendly and most efficient. Good equipment and a good experience overall. Much different than Uhaul of 20 years ago.

I am going to detail my experience here. No issues with U-Haul the company, but the person who operated the location was shady and either very naive regarding race relations in America, or flat out racist, and the store operator was non-white (most likely northern African/Arabic, as my story will explain) I had zero problems with the experience until it was time to return the vehicle. I went to the gas station to fill up to the area I needed to, as the documentation said 5/8, but the store operator (operator from here on out) adjusted it because the tank was not at 5/8, it was at 1/2 full. I knew I would be over the mileage limit and would have to pay additional, which was fine, however upon checkout, the operator tried to say that I didn't fill the tank back up. I only drove around 50 miles (my mileage estimate was about 30). Using basic understanding, the tank on the U Haul 10' truck is a 33 gallon tank, mpg is about 15-17 mpg, so 50 miles would be about 3 gallons which is exactly what I put back in the tank at the gas station literally in front of the store, but it is ok, I am not worried because I am still happy that I just got a 200+ pound sofa recliner up a flight of stairs into my daughter's 1st apartment. Then the store guy asks a question: "What do you call yourself? Black or African-American?" (As I am a black man) I respond awkwardly, black or african american, as i was caught completely off guard by this. He proceeds to tell me I am an American as I am not from Africa and then goes on a diatribe about how Caucasian Americans always depict Africa as a third world country with people living in huts when there are luxurious cities in Africa. He then proceeds to tell me that I need to vacation to Africa "When I own my own business or make more money", assuming that I don't have the money to do so now. I am a black man who is college educated (BSEE Purdue '09 in 4 years), I make 6 figures a year, and I have a good job with a Fortune 1000 company, I am married with two stepdaughters and have no criminal record. I seriously may have been in jail today had this store operator not told me our transaction was finished. I almost knocked this guy out, but I am hoping that U-Haul can proverbially do that, as I hope no one who rents from U-Haul has the experience I did. I felt humiliated, insulted, and it took my happiness from doing what my mother and father did for me, moving me into my first apartment, completely away. I should have expected that renting a U-Haul from a smoke shop would have had some consequences, almost like smoking in general. Surgeon General's warning: do not rent U-Hauls from smoke shops, your race and ethnicity will come under fire. I laugh now because I couldn't cry in front of my family.

No longer allow this store owner to rent out uhauls. Very rude and unprofessional. I returned my rental under the amount of miles i paid for and was only supposed to be charged roughly $57-58 but my email receipt says 77. The truck was filthy and abs light came on right when i left and before i left his location i told him his emergency brake was falling out and he insisted that they all come like that. Even though i had just rented a uhaul from a legit location about 2 weeks prior. He was a total mess. Oh and to top it off the gas gauge was in between half and a quarter and he demanded i fill it up. You guys at uhaul really need to pull the contract you have with this store. He gives your awesome company a bad rep.

Dirty disgusting head shop selling bongs and other items. FOUL smelling. Doors were locked, lights were off and employee had a lady friend there. Called and the employee came an unlocked the doors. Asked us to come around back which was uncomfortable. Another woman who arrived when I did to buy boxes left in disgust. This location does not fit the brand and was a black eye on an otherwise smooth rental for a cross country trip

Smoke Shop proprietor is really nice but can be very busy and has a very very slow inet connection. conveniently located 100 yards from a 24 Hour Fitness, so you can leave your personal vehicle near their entrance with a higher degree of confidence than at many other U Haul sites
