Hi! I signed up for self-checkin this morning for an 8am pickup. I arrived at 8am and went through the self-checkin process. I got to the awaiting approval screen and it just churned for several minutes, so I used the chat feature. No response. Sent another hello. No response. Started to get worried so sent a chat message asking if something was wrong. No response. After 20 minutes of waiting for approval, I called customer service and they said it was due to high volume and I just had to wait to be helped. This was my first time doing this, so I didn't know exactly what the process was. It ended up taking about 25 minutes from time of arrival to get the car and I was late meeting the movers (which I had to pay for). There was an employee on-site setting up trucks, but he did not help me. I tried to ask him about checking in online and he said he has nothing to do with that and can't help me. I felt very confused and unsure and a little stressed - since I knew I'd be late meeting the movers. It all eventually worked and I got the truck and there weren't any problems. I'd just say that you may want to save your future customers that choose self-check a little stress by letting them know that it may take 25-30 minutes to process the check-in, so they can plan accordingly and manage their expectations if there is a delay in approving them. I would also recommend training any staff that may be on-site on the process, so instead of just telling customers that they can't help them and leaving them to their own devices to figure out what is happening, they may be able to tell the customer that sometimes it takes a while for someone to get to process their check-in and that nothing is wrong. It would have gone a long way to lessen my worry that something had gone wrong and would have saved me a customer service call to receive that message. Apart from that the self-checking was pretty smooth.

The driver side wheel strap tightner on the trailer came loose and the handle broke off. The transmission in the truck needs to be serviced. It had major issues downshifting as well as up shifting.

(AARP aged person. Lived abroad and in (5) different States. Have moved many times. This was the worst, most hostile (read: scary) experience I have ever had as a customer. You need to get your desk employee under control. Never going back to U-Haul in Albany.
