The uhaul was filthy, there were cigarette ashes on the dash and door. It smelled horrible. We almost ran out of gas on the way to get gas (1 block away) cause the fuel was so low

U haul needs to make sure their systems are working. It is not a good experience to book a rental just to show up and find out the pickup location might not be able to process the rental because the u haul portal is acting up.
Zeus ANp sooner had I parked, the associate came streaming out of the building sputtering and wondering why we were back. I explained what happened, that the truck was deemed an unsafe fit for the job, and wasn't used for it as it would have injured someone or killed them, when compared to the furniture type and size. The associate informed me in a very nasty tone that they were the only one on site to run the counter (there were no other customers there when we pulled up or even after several minutes). The associate was rude, unprofessional, condescending, and had a nasty attitude in this second interaction. They asked me "are you going to check it in or am I?!" when I was checking the outside of the vehicle to ensure it wasn't in the way of anything. They criticized where I had parked it (the same spot I drove it out of and the only spot available) and how "it's in the way and blocking everything in!" I asked for a receipt, after a very rude breakdown of the total cost to return a uhaul that turned out was wrong for the moving project it was needed for (turned out to be unsafe for the project) and was informed that they "don't give physical receipts and you're just going to have to get used to it." The associate was practically throwing a fit. When I mentioned that I needed a safer alternative that was recommended instead, and it wasn't available for that area, they informed me "we have one, but it'll be back later as it's rented out so you'll have to return later to rent it." It would "be more expensive" they told me. No attempt to fix the issue, bad customer service overall from both over the phone and the rental onsite. To make it even better, while the associate was complaining and checking in the truck the other TWO associates showed up (there was 3 now in total) in a truck with the company name and logo on it. Nothing else was offered or done. I have lost my faith in this rental company permanently.
