The mileage was included for a rental. I have now been charged $577.00 for mileage, which I will dispute with my credit card, and an extra day for less than a 20 minute late return. WOW - U-Haul must be going broke and hoping NEVER to have repeat customers!!!!!!!!!!
I got a uhaul truck for a one way trip and asked for it for 3 days and she only put in for one day. So when I went today I found out that total cost was almost $300. I would of returned it to Warren and probably returned it sooner if I had been informed at the appropriate time.
The location was fine. The reservation was easy to make. However, this long-time UHaul customer had trouble picking up my truck. Due to the pandemic, there is a contactless online process. I followed all the instructions, but when the final approval was pending, it took about 10-15 minutes to process, and then it said I needed more information in order to be approved. This step required either a passport, a copy of the lease, or the contact information of someone they could contact to verify I am who I say I am. Who carries a passport or a lease around with them when they are moving? Who wants to hang out in a hot parking lot when they are on a tight moving schedule waiting for UHaul to call a friend who may or not be available right at that second to verify I am who I say I am? As dumb luck would have it, I did have a copy of my new lease, but what if I didn't, or what if this wasn't a move for me? I called to complain to customer service and they said this second round of approval is rare for a customer to have to go through, but I argued that if it's a possibility, you need to warn people to have a passport, lease, or friend who they know will be available ahead of time so they can be prepared. They also couldn't tell me why I was selected for this second round of approval when the phone number I was using to check the truck out is the same phone number I have had since the first time I rented a truck more than 20 years ago, my name and license number is all the same, etc. I'm not sure what the hangup was and because of the delay of having to go through two levels of approval after already having a valid reservation made me late arriving back to my house and put us behind in our moving schedule.
When we booked online, we booked a drop off at Louis Doe Hardware in Newcastle, Maine. When we arrived to drop off the trailer, we were told by an extremely rude man at the U Haul Desk that they don't accept trailers. In fact, he yelled â€œNo!â€ at us from across the store when we first asked the cashier about it. Not only did he not offer to help us location to drop it off, he said â€œ call UHaulâ€ and walked away. You can't make this stuff up. Waited on hold for 15 minutes with UHaul before they told me we had to call a different #. Called that # and they answered right away. Alternate drop off location Yankee Motor Lodge couldn't have been nicer and finally we were able to return the trailer after 45 minutes of trying to get it all straightened out. UHaul should be embarrassed to have people like the ones at Louis Doe in Newcastle representing your company.
I didn't know how to pick up the truck, rang the doorbell to the office and was greeted by, I assume, a surly manager who's Only advice was to call uhaul. The phone call and subsequent pick up via phone took about 30 - 40 frustrating minutes which were completely wasted and unnecessary. Pickup a uhaul is never fun, but this was ridiculous.
Hanging a sign on the door that instead of "back at 12:00" say "office closed for u-haul please call to reserve one". I stopped by twice and was going to another location but just happened to try calling.
The location is a motel for transient homeless people who at 630 am were sitting outside smoking cigarettes and marijuana bowls walking around my vehicle and staring at me for 75 minutes while I struggled to access customer service to complete self pick up it was a disaster ! Maybe the motel can separate the rental business from the motel business and move it to opposite side of property. I was uncomfortable with the drug use and sketchy men staring at me. You need more directions for self service as my iPhone wasn't recognized for location unless I was standing in front of the motel office door and the smart phone location services required additional steps and clearing before my rental could be completed BUT I had to wait over an hour to get customer service on the phone even after 7 am no one would answer and when a few did they disconnected me or transferred me and I never got through which ruined our move because we had a strict timeline that got screwed by your processes and a two hour delay. Also I requested a moving dolly which I assumed wrongly was in rear of van so when I arrived it made the move very difficult ! We suffered a back strain and an elbow injury as a result ! Also my reservation made the day before was for 12 hours and it was changed by someone in customer service to 4, so when I checked out I was charged for two rental periods which was just the icing on the cake after a horrible hot day that started badly and only got worse because of all the things that went wrong with your self check in and check out processes. I will say that the few reps I actually got to speak with finally for correcting the check in process and the check our process and the bill Correction process were excellent and thorough and apologetic for our issues. Once you're lucky enough to reach them after an hour or more the customer service reps are wonderful. Please be more clear with your self serve smart phone directions it's not as simple as you describe in your ads. In remote places like Maine with spotty wifi and users who don't know the deep intricacies of all settings , it's way more complicated.
Not much except your pick up app kept shutting down and going back to the beginning. Otherwise all went great. Thank You. U-Haul's the best!!!!!!
The issues we had with the truck was quickly addressed. The U-haul staff we talked to on the phone addressed our concerns in a timely manner. Couldn't expect a better outcome for a bad first start. For that reason alone i would recommend Uhaul to friends and family
These people were the nicest,and most helpful. Felt like family. Will tell all my friends to use them
My only suggestion would be the key return box, it appears to be a wooden bird house with a slide up door and no lock, my concern is returning the keys and someone stealing them and the rental. It really should be corrected. I will send a picture if requested

The pickup location is on a busy highway. If I hadn't had my GPS, I probably would have driven right by. It is also a motel. The owners were very efficient Provide better directions.
Only complaint: Twice now I've had to pick up the truck in a less optimal location after informing me my 1st choice was my pickup location. This screwed up our logistics. Stop doing this.

Yes, the drop off staff that was a half hour further away from my house than where I was contractually obligated to go was very nice. But, with U-Haul being such a terrible company to rent from, how can I recommend these folks, even though they were nice?

I got to the drop off location at Louis Doe center in Damariacotta. They refused to take the trailer as they said they were not accepting trailers, very poor customer service experience with the employee. Not at all helpful, second poor experience with this location. Had to go to Warren to drop off. Very good customer service in this location. Will not go to Louis Doe center again.
Drop off changed and inconvenienced me, Newcastle drop off attendant was rude to me and told me I had to take the trailer somewhere else 25 miles away. The Warren drop off was a shit hole and no one was there. Not until a gentleman named Steve called, on our way back to PA, and informed us we were late dropping off the trailer did we finally get all this straightened out. Steve was definitely customer service trained and a pleasure to work with on the phone. This said I will never use uHaul again or even frequent the Newcastle store after we move to Maine, the way we were treated in Newcastle was beyond customer repair, not only rude but we learned from Steve that the Newcastle store had given us the wrong drop off place. I bought it right back but still was charged full price. The door to the storage unit were frozen. Unable to ulitize the truck. For the price it wasn't worth it.
