Kia Forte (2019-2022) hitch installation steps

1. Remove driver-side underbody panel

To start the hitch installation process you will need to prepare the underbody of your Kia Forte to make room for your hitch. Using your sockets and flathead, remove the pushpins and nuts from the driver-side underbody panel to allow it to be removed.

2. Lower the exhaust

Following the removal of the driver-side panel, the exhaust will need to be lowered as well. There are 2 rubber retainers that will need to be detached.

3. Remove heat shield

Using your 10mm socket, take out the 5 nuts on the heat shield to allow its removal. Following this be sure to remove the rubber grommets on the vehicle’s frame.

4. Install the hardware

Install the hardware for your hitch by feeding your carriage bolt and spacer through the attachment points with fish wire. Repeat this process on the passenger side.

5. Raise the hitch into position

You can now raise your hitch into position, aligning it with the attachment points where you installed the hardware. Once in place, remove the fish wire and install the conical washers.

6. Drill frame hole

Using your power drill, you will need to drill a hole in the rearmost hole of the hitch for an additional access point. Once you’ve drilled this hole on each side of the frame, install the second set of hardware to secure the hitch.

7. Tighten and torque the hitch

Tighten and torque all the installed hardware to the manufacturer’s specifications.

8. Re-install underbody parts and re-hang exhaust

To re-install the underbody panel and heat shield, each part will need to be trimmed to the manufacturer’s specifications. You can now re-hang the exhaust as well.

You should now have your trailer hitch installed on your Kia Forte.
