Start Your Trailer Search
Open the U-Haul App and head to the Home tab. Under “Products & Services,” select “Trailers & Towing” to begin your reservation. Next, enter your pickup date and location. You can also enter your drop-off location, but this is optional. Tap “Get Rates” to view available trailer options in your area.
Enter Your Vehicle Information
Before you can reserve a trailer, the app needs to confirm your towing setup is compatible. To know if your vehicle has a trailer hitch that can be equipped to tow, learn more about The Complete Guide to Selecting a Trailer Hitch.
Here’s what to do:
- Select “Add New Vehicle” if you’re using your personal vehicle.
- Enter the year, make, model, and features using the dropdown menus.
- If you’re towing with something else, you can also choose RV or a U-Haul truck rental from the dropdown menu.
This step helps match you with trailers and cargo weight limits that your vehicle can safely tow.
Choose Your Trailer Type and Size
If your vehicle is compatible, you’ll see available trailer options along with pricing. From here, you can compare trailer types and sizes as well as allowed cargo weight limits. You’ll see pricing on the right side of the screen, so you can be sure to choose the option that fits your needs and your budget.
Tap “Select” for the pop-up to load with trailer information, so you can learn more before selecting it.
Review Trailer Details Before Selecting
Each U-Haul trailer has its own dimensions, cargo capacity, and features. Make sure to read up on these details before making a selection, or you may miss a key detail. These pages also include important safety details and whether your current vehicle is allowed to tow it. When you tap a trailer, a pop-up will show these helpful details:
- Trailer dimensions
- Interior cubic feet
- Door, gate, or ramp opening size
- Rail height (if applicable)
- Allowed cargo weight by hitch rating
If you’re unsure about your hitch rating, the app includes guidance to help you find it. Once you’re ready, tap “Continue.”
If you are still unsure about how to find your trailer hitch rating, U-Haul can help.

Select Your Pickup Location
The app will display nearby U-Haul locations with available trailers and towing equipment, alternate options, or limited availability. Choose the location that works best for your schedule and inventory needs. You’ll also be given a free towing inspection when you go to pick up your trailer, so you know what to expect.
Confirm Your Rental Details
Before checking out, you’ll review your reservation details, including your trailer, pickup date, rental duration, and pickup time. It only takes a second to double-check everything, and once you’re ready, you can move forward.
