Steps to Schedule a Hitch Installation on the U-Haul App 

1. Start on the Home Screen 

Open the U-Haul app and head to the home screen. From there, under the section titled “Products and Services”, scroll until you see the “Trailer Hitches” icon. Tap on the icon.  

2. Enter Your Vehicle Information 

You’ll now be prompted to enter details about your vehicle, such as the year, make, model, and trim. This step is important because it ensures that you’re only shown the exact hitch and wiring options that fit your vehicle, as well as the corresponding accessories to tow a trailer. 

3. Choose Your Delivery Option 

Next, decide how you want to receive your hitch. You can choose to have it installed at a U-Haul location, shipped directly to you, or picked up in-store. 

If you go with purchase and installation at U-Haul Moving Center®, you’ll also have the option to add a lifetime hitch warranty plan, which covers replacement for a wide range of situations, including collision, corrosion, accidental overload, jackknifing, and even vehicle theft. A two-year wiring service plan is also available to help cover repairs or replacements if anything happens to your wiring setup. 

Once you select installation, enter your ZIP code and choose a date that works for you. On the next page, the app will narrow down the closest U-Haul centers that will install your hitch based on availability. 

4. View Hitch Options 

Tap “Find Hitches” to see what’s available for your vehicle. Take a moment to scroll through, compare, and select hitches, wiring, and accessories. 

Each option includes pricing, product images, measurements, and specifications, along with a total estimated hitch installation cost. The default selections are based on U-Haul’s recommended options, so if you’re unsure which one to choose, you can feel confident relying on that guidance. Everything is laid out clearly, so you don’t need to spend extra time researching. 

5. Add Accessories 

After selecting your hitch, you’ll have the option to add accessories, like a ball mount, hitch ball, and locking pin, as well as wiring to complete your tow package. 

Not sure what accessories you need? Don’t worry! The app suggests compatible items based on your setup, which is a nice touch if you’re not familiar with towing equipment. 

6. Select a Location and Appointment Time 

Now it’s time to choose the date and location for your installation. The app shows nearby U-Haul locations along with their availability and pricing, so you can pick what works best for you. Once you’ve chosen a location and selected a date and time, you can decide whether you’ll drop off your vehicle or wait at the center during the installation. 

7. Check Out 

Before confirming, you’ll be able to review everything, including your hitch, wiring, accessories, location, and appointment details. Once it all looks good, go ahead and check out. Your installation is officially scheduled.
