Help is on the way this week. Hurricane Sandy has wreaked havoc on many parts of the Eastern United States. Our thoughts, support, and hearts go out to the people who have been affected by this catastrophic event. During this difficult time, many companies are stepping forward to help those who in need. Below is a list of several companies that offer help to those who are trying to put the pieces back together after Hurricane Sandy:

30 days of free self- storage from U-Haul: U-Haul has a long-time policy of assisting those in need during natural disasters, such as hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, fires, etc., by offering 30 days of free self-storage and U-Box container moving and self-storage at participating U-Haul self-storage facilities on an as-available basis. More information: uhaul.com/Disaster-Relief

Employee pricing incentive from Nissan: In response to the severe impact of Hurricane Sandy, Nissan North America, Inc. will extend VPP “Employee Pricing” to individuals and businesses whose vehicle(s) sustained damage. Individuals or businesses sustaining vehicle damage or a total loss can take advantage of this special offer that is normally reserved for Nissan and Infiniti employees or their immediate family members.

Dennis O’Connor of U-Haul says, “[We] will continue providing assistance to people during these times of uncertainty and need.”

Animal supplies and lost pet database from ASPCA: The ASPCA is offering assistance to families evacuated during the storm. Responders are delivering supplies, crates and food to evacuation centers, where hundreds of animals are being housed, in the five boroughs of New York. For those evacuees who need to report pets left behind in the storm, please call the city’s 24-hour hotline at (347) 573-1561.

Food, Blanket, and Water Distribution Locations: New York City is providing food, blankets and water. See a list of locations here.

Public Shelters: Many shelters in New York City are open to the general public in light if the disaster. A full list of shelters, as well as the populations they serve can be found here.

AirBNB has added a relief page for those who are providing places to stay for Hurricane Sandy victims.

GasBuddy has created a database of which gas stations do and do not have gas.

In addition to the free services provided above, there are hundreds of companies donating a great deal to the relief efforts including Wal-Mart, Coca-Cola, Bayer, and Wells Fargo.
