On Friday, May 20, 2022 I reserved a 26 foot truck, auto-transport, and packing materials online to move my 3 bedroom family home from Alberta to Ontario. My order (Order #: 22233268) was scheduled for pickup on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at the Kensington Auto U-Haul location. The week of my order I was notified that the equipment would be available at the Deerfoot U-Haul location and advised me that I should arrange for pickup of the truck on Thursday in order to pack the truck before picking up what was now a tow-dolly on Friday, July 15, 2022. After picking up the truck at the Deerfoot U-Haul location and packing the truck with my belongings, I returned to the Deerfoot U-Haul location on Friday, July 15, at approximately 11:00 a.m. to pick-up the tow-dolly. Two staff members attempted to install the tow-dolly on the truck for approximately 15 minutes before determining that the left turn signal on the tow-dolly did not function properly. No additional tow-dollies were available at the Deerfoot U-Haul location. The staff members called the Barlow U-Haul location to confirm that an electrician named Mario could assess the situation and fix the left turn signal. I was instructed to drive the truck and broken tow-dolly to the Barlow location. Upon arriving at the Barlow U-Haul location at approximately 12:00 p.m. MST, I was told Mario was busy with another project, did not have time to inspect the issue on my tow-dolly, and that the Deerfoot staff should never have sent me to their location. The conflict between the two U-Haul locations was mentioned to me repeatedly throughout the experience and I was made to feel this was my problem. Mario briefly looked at the tow-dolly but could not provide a solution and returned to his work on a Mercedes SUV in the onsite auto-body shop. Staff informed me that no other one-way tow-dolly was available in the city of Calgary. Staff members offered the possibility of me driving both the truck and vehicle to British Columbia, Strathmore, and Regina, with no assurances that the correct equipment would be made available there upon arrival. Staff instructed me that because I had driven the broken tow-dolly from one location to the other, it was now my issue, and the only way I could resolve the issue was to call U-Haul roadside assistance to assess the left turn signal. Staff refused to place the call and insisted that I place the call myself. I placed a call to U-Haul roadside assistance and submitted an online request for assistance. U-Haul roadside assistance arrived in a reasonable amount of time and determined the left turn signal was broken and could not be fixed but provided no other solution to the issue. Staff asked me why I packed the truck before confirming the trailer would be compatible with the truck, contrary to what previous staff members had instructed me to do. At approximately 3:00 p.m. MST, three hours after arriving at the Barlow U-Haul location, staff members determined the best option was to install an auto-transport to confirm that the truck was not the issue. The auto-transport was installed and all turn signals worked correctly. My vehicle was loaded onto the auto-transport and corrections were made to my order to reflect the change in equipment and location it was dispatched from. I was able to start my four-day cross-country drive from Alberta to Ontario at 4:00 p.m. MST., five hours after I originally planned. This was my first experience using U-Haul services and I am greatly disappointed with the customer service and quality of care provided. Your staff placed me in danger by asking me to drive a broken piece of equipment, treated me as if I caused an issue by requesting assistance from a different location at their colleague's direction, and failed to provide an efficient solution to the problem in a reasonable amount of time. Staff members lacked basic problem solving skills, failed to think creatively, or put the customer experience first. I cannot in good conscience use U-Haul's services again or recommend them to my friends and family. When there are issues with a previous client, put them on hold for 5 minutes and take on the next client. There is no excuse to make someone wait 1 hour to get credit card info when the check in was complete. We had the trailer already hooked up, just had to wait because the precious person had issues with paying round trip and was saying he only wanted one way.Richard D.

The only detail I have any issue with . Is that I was told it's 89 cents a kilometre . We used 22.8 kilometres and was charged 33$ on my bill. The lady I dealt with was fantastic , she's the best part of dealing with this business , she's nice , funny and easy to deal with ! But there must be hidden costs because my mileage , which is less than kilometres should only have been 15-20$JEFF M.
Follow through according to the contract. I returned the truck with more gas than was necessary and according to my paperwork I was under the mileage allowed but I was still charged an overage. Your customer service needs a definite improvement because right now it sucks.Brenda K.

Lee Anne was awesome, the lone shining star in my UHaul experience which included: Website follies: 1. Could not change reservation - link failed to provide a field for date/ time change 2. Phone call answered, I was given another phone number to call instead of being transferred to someone who could help. Phone # provided was not in service. 3. Could not check in return on line because website would not allow me to. This resulted in a $20 additional charge that I had to question. Truck only available 2 hour drive away - not given sufficient additional miles to compensate PLUS big time inconvenience and additional expense. Positives: 1. Lee Ann great to deal with 2. Pick up location was 4hrs out of my way. Reservation was made 6 weeks in advance. I was told 3 days before pickup where the pick up location was, by then it was too late to change companies, or find a trailer in a different region, and I was stuck spending 4 hrs of my time and gas to pick up the trailer. Customer service on the phone was not helpful at all, they kept downloading the problem on me. I was not very happy and wioll have to consider this next time I book a rentalFrederick E.

Very unprofessional. Rented a vehicle 2 weeks prior and called the day before to make sure it was going to be there and they didn't inform me they didn't have a vehicle ready there for me. What was going to happen when I showed up in the morning and nothing was there for me??? I was on a very tight schedule and wouldn't of been able to get to another location to pick up.DAVE M.

Not charge $40 for an extra day when the check-in took 45 minutes and was 30 minutes from my chosen pick up site.Jordan M.
I was told to drop the truck off at this location. If after 4 o'clock. I was told to leave the truck in the parking lot. Put the key in a drop box. Lock the truck and leave. I got to the dealership after 4 o'clock. The gate was locked. I was not told about a gate. It took me half an hour to get someone on the phone that could help me. After another half an hour we finally got the code for the lock box on the gate. There was no key for the gate. I was told to leave the truck outside the gate and put the key in the box and leave. Thats what I did. I was not expecting this kind of aggravation. Along with being charged $60 for approximately $10 worth of missed fuel. I would rate my experience very low. At this point I would not recommend either of the 2 locations I dealt with. Hope this helps.JPKEITH B.
Cindy was great! Easy check-in process and no issues with the truck I rented. There is no parking within the compound, but I used the empty lot next door with no problem. Was a little confused by the online check-in process, but I added the information to my contract and it seems like that worked ok. I expected that the quoted price included a deposit amount that would be adjusted after the safe return of the vehicle, but the full amount is still reflected on my statement. There was a problem with the gas. There was a distinctive gasoline odor approaching the vehicle. When I took possession the gas gauge was slightly less than what was described ( I have photos ). This vehicle was 3' longer than the one I rented for the same trip last year at about the same time. However, even though I had a back wind, this trip took 2 times as much gas. Last year it was appox. $32.00, this year it was $60.00 and gas is cheaper this year. There was a gas stain on the driveway. I have photos of that as well.Richard Z.

Helpful, easy to deal with! I vowed I would never use UHaul again after 2 yrs. ago, when I was given a poorly serviced van that broke down in the rain, fully loaded. The trailer was rented to me knowing that it was poorly maintained. The brakes siezed, and the wheels caught fire, and I had to get a replacement trailer. The owner stood outside their door watching me while I drove away. It seemd suspicious at the time, but now I know why. the Firemen told me that the trailer should never have been put on the road.
