The person who came outside to grab the key from me whiles I was grabbing my daughter out of the truck really made me feel unwelcome and kinda talked down to me . Mitchell Ings became very defensive when I asked him to put on his mask. As a health care worker I would recommend if he is exempt from masking related to medical diagnosis maybe he have other task than reception/customer face to face. A shield is not sufficient protection and it infringes on my rights as a customer. I realize there may be exceptions to the legislated requirements of universal masking in all establishments serving the public but it's shouldn't be at the cost of customers comfort. Other wise the service was good. Haven't received my refund to my card as of yet. I assume it will come.Alison S.

We booked a 10x20 storage unit with outside access to store our stuff in. When we arrived they had said someone rented out the unit without checking the reservations. We ended up settling for 2 10x10 units inside down a bunch of hallways. Now the truck was full of outdoor furniture we were bringing to storage and you can imagine how long and strenuous it was taking it through all these hallways. We came from Saskatchewan to this. I have been double charged for a storage unit end of January 2021 and despite contacting the branch on 3 occasions, twice in person the manager was too busy to sort out a refund of $186.00. Contacting g customer service didn't help either. After going over in detail again what happened and a promise they would sort out and me a refund. They did not call back and that was 12 days ago. Further, I vacated my storage unit and advised 3 people I had left. I received a late rent notice and a phone call yesterday asking me to pay again! No I would not recommend this branch at all, 8f 9t was their money out of their chequing account I am sure they would have sorted. I would not however recommend Uhaul as a whole. I think its atrocious the price you charge per mile and feel the first 40km should be included. Are you kidding me 112 to use the truck for less than 24 hours. It used to cost me that to use or for 3 days for crying out loud! Bring the price per mile down or I won't ever be back! Location was GREAT on pickup but overly busy on drop off and only two staff working the counter!NORA-LEE T.
I had the worst experience ever with one of your customer service workers.....I was returning one truck but had to rent another as I had not finished my move in time for my return time.....I got to your store and was told I couldn't get another truck rental.....when I tried to figure out how and why I was just told "no" and "there is nothing more could be done.... Needless to say I hadn't brought my own vehicle as I was renting another.....I told her I didn't understand and that I had no way home.... again I was told "nothing I can do" I asked where the lady was that I had last night...I waited for the lady I had to rent the first truck (Asia) and when she came in everything was done.....weird that 1 girl was able to rent to me but another was not....I don't know the girl's name that was so rude an obviously very inexperienced but she was the rudest person I ever dealt with in customer service, it took up so much of my time (I was moving) I'm sure I was there for over a hour! Asia was great but having to go through what I did with the first girl and having to stand and wait....it was the worst experience in the world and I would not go back there nor would I recommend to anyone.SASHA M.
The storage unit itself was great but I had more than one problem with rude staff there, that is why I closed my storage unit. I will not recommend this place to anyone. The original location in Niagara Falls gave me the wrong time. I booked the truck for 7am and the store opens at noon. Booked a driver at 7 and someone to help me carry in Toronto at 8:30am ended up switching to another location in St. Catharines and arriving in Toronto an hour late. I drove 12 kms. I had the rental for less than an hour. Then they tried to tell me that it needed fuel and they'd charge me an extra $30 if I didn't bring it up to 1/4 tank. It cost me $8 to do that. There's zero chance I used $8 worth of gas in 12 kms. What a scam. Never again.APRIL L.

Exterior was dirty - mud all over and the interior not clean at all. For a big and new location it appears staff don't do their job. Also in the interior a mask, Covid-19, was not removed from the last rental which indicates this truck was never cleaned. Very poor job!!!!! As a long time UHaul customer personally and commercially, I had a VERY unpleasant experience with 72 Vine St Location. I rent out a 20 feet truck on Dec 3 for my moving, I have movers booked Dec 3 to load all my furnitures and then on Dec 4 morning to unload my things at my new house. However the truck had battery problem and was not able to start. I contacted road side assist on 7:58, they advise me that 45mins ETA. I contact my movers, and they let me know that in this case they will have to reschedule because they are fully booked that day and the day after, so I got rescheduled to Dec 5. I called Uhaul after the truck was fixed and explained that the truck is fully loaded and that my movers only have time to finish the job Dec 5. The woman on phone was nice and understanding and offered extension, she even asked if I would need to extend to Sunday(Dec 6) morning. I told her no need, I can finish and return by 6pm Dec 5. And when I ask if there is extra charge she told me no, because truck problem was not my fault, it'd be free extension. I was happy at this point and think highly of how the problem was resolved. However on Dec 5 when i went to return the truck, things got a dramatic turn. The service guy wants to charge me 3 days of rental for truck and equipment for over $400. I explain to him that I called upfront to get a free extension. He would not believe me. He would not check phone record, and then go about to telling me that truck was fixed in time, and start blaming me that it was my choice not to return the truck. The communication was unfriendly and insulting. I told him look, there is no way you can find movers same day and my movers have already done half the job. After some meaningless argument, he said he can knock off 1 days charge as if it is a good deal. I said no, please call your manager. The service guy then unwilling called "traffic control centre" and instead of trying to explain the situation, he come up a different story of his own: "I have a customer not happy to pay for extension because he had to pay movers. His truck had minor problem that is fixed in 30 mins and he had the truck for 3 days.â€ By not communicating all the details and denying the fact free extension was offered upfront, he then turn around and told me control centre decided I have to pay 2 days, and threat me that either I pay or I will get blacklisted. What a great way to treat unhappy customer. I also have question about this guy's professional qualification as customer service, he was complaining the whole time when he was providing me the service. He even insulted me by saying â€œAs a grown man, you cant move it? At least you can find other alternativesâ€¦ its too late nowâ€¦ blah blah blahâ€ Excuse me? I feel personally insulted. Whoever looks at the reviews please check all the phone recordings. If this is not resolved, me and my construction company will not be using UHaul ever again. In addition I will post reviews publicly about this experience and complain to consumer affairs.YU G.

received my receipt this morning, and was very disappointed to learn I would be charged an extra day's rental (and insurance coverage) for being 90 minutes late. I asked at the location if there would be extra charges if I came in before 8pm, as my 6 hour rental period was just an estimate. They said no. I called to let them know I'd be late, but no one picked up, and then they contacted me and let them know and they said it would be fine. Then I got this receipt saying I am basically paying double. There was little transparency to this process and I'd appreciate if the problem was rectified.BRENDAN M.

I was to pick up in Fenwick ,rerouted to Welland at the Mobile Gas location which was fine, the order was wrong, clerk called uhaul office, spoke with Mike, he rerouted me down to St Catharines on Vine, said truck was available from Thursday noon till closing on Friday, I agreed to this. Got down there and no truck??took 2 hrs to straighten out but truck had to be back at noon, not working for me but took truck. Truck stunk of pot?? found a used joint on the dash??? thought trucks were sanitized?? When returned was given 40$$ off. service was terrible. very bad experience for my moving day. wasted mileage and time and money.Linda L.

I didn't find the staff person at the counter very friendly, so that was a turn off. Otherwise the location was fine. My biggest beef was with the rental for an out of town move of 200 km was for 48 hours, far longer than I needed it for. As it was, I returned the truck after 9 hours. I can see paying for 24 hours. If there was a shorter option than 48 hours staff did not tell me about it. There should be at least a discount if the truck is returned a lot earlier.MARK S.

I originally rented a trailer. If the first vehicle had the appropriate hitch I would have left with a trailer, but as it didn't, I went to get a different vehicle. When I got back I was told I couldn't take that trailer as there was a problem with a tire. Should that not have been inspected before securing my deposit for the rental? They did not have any other trailers to rent me so I had to rent a van which was a lot more expensive. As I was only requiring the rental for a couple of hours. Not impressed.Lisa L.

However, the key card was registered to Michael for some reason and I couldn’t get access this morning with the card. You make us buy one of your locks, which I did. Bought a defective one that kept catching. Complained to staff about the problems opening the lock. Had Mitchell come and try it himself. He had both the key & the lock in his hands and deemed the lock defective. The latch seemed to catch on the inside of the casing and took a lot of time and struggle to remove each time. MJ would not let me exchange the lock. She kept saying that “how was she supposed to know that it wasn’t my fault.” “That I didn’t drop it or damage it somehow.” Absurd. I was only there for a short time & on this particular day, was moving everything out. Got it all, but 4 bags. Put the lock on and left. Was back yesterday morning to get the last 4 bags. I could not get the lock off and came to the office to try and get help. “Robert” at least acknowledged that if I could get it off, he would exchange the lock. Something that MJ refuses to do many times. I told Robert that my key was bending and i was concerned about not being able to get it off. Went back and kept trying and the key broke off. Went back to the office again and Robert said he’d come over and help. He first went into the office and got MJ who came out again and said that “for security reasons” they couldn’t get the lock off for me.” She blamed me over and over about the lock stating that I could have dropped it, etc. I am a professional woman in my 50’s and didn’t appreciate her accusations and lack of help. Not once did she apologize for the situation or offer any type of assistance. I asked about your lock cutting staff and she would not confirm that she would get assistance, and refused to allow “Robert” to help. I left and with a little bit of research, found a manager from another location who I had never dealt with before, who sympathized with my situation. This new manager shared with me how to get the broken piece out of the lock with a Bobbie pin and that I could then try my spare lock. Failing that, this new manager then gave me the number of the Hamilton location where upper management could arrange some help. I Googled that number and drove to Hamilton. “Tom” at this location called MJ for me and complained about their lack of customer service on my behalf. He inquired about a reason why they wouldn’t help and they could not provide one for him. He got off the phone and went and talked to “Michelle” who authorized the u-Haul lock cutter, “Eric” to come and help and have me a new lock. While I drove back to St. Catharines and waited, he even called again to let me know when Eric would be there. Eric showed up around 9:30 and was extremely nice. He got the broken piece of key out and wanted to try the spare key himself. He had extreme difficulty getting the lock off with the key, too, ended up hurting himself while doing so and took the lock and keys with him.Judging on how my experience had gone to date, I went into the office to get a move out receipt from Robert before leaving. There is simply no excuse for this experience. MJ checked me into the locker, MJ rented me the van and took my drivers license, and MJ was there during every experience stifling her staff from helping me. I am extremely disappointed and baffled as to why a grown woman would be such a position, if she does not have the problem solving skills, or customer service skills to deal with these types of situations. Perhaps this position is too overwhelming for her and you need to re-examine your staffing at this location. Even a Manager whom I have never dealt with before, was able to offer assistance and direction. I had spent a lot of my time and frustration trying to get some assistance with a lock that U-Haul forces customers to buy and then does not stand behind their product. At least this Manager refuses to. In running my business, I could not even fathom speaking to one of my customers in the way that MJ handled this situation and is certainly not a good look for your company. At the very least, this woman requires further training on how to deal with situations as they arise.christine l. | Overall Experience

I would have given it 5 stars if the freight elevator was accessible 24/7 and not just during office hours. The Vine street U-Haul has made significant upgrades and I support this friendly business. However, I recently chose the outside unit thinking it would be better for quick access etc (which it was). The unit leaked when it rained and there was evidence of rat feces on the stored boxes and floor. I had not chosen the extra coverage, so an expensive rug was ruined despite being covered and otherwise just gross. Don't use outside units!elaine a. | Overall Experience

So first off I was told that I would receive a storage unit free for a month if I rented a truck from Niagara Falls and dropped it in St. Catharines which made it so I had to go all the way there considering i was in St. Catharines. The gentleman in Niagara Falls was very helpful and lowered my rate cause I didn’t have to do that. So then I get to vine at location to find out that the storage unit I booked was indeed not on the main level which I had requested cause I can’t walk stairs. When I called to open I was given the main level at 134.95 and told it was a promotion. When I arrived I was told it was not the main floor and that If I wanted a main floor unit I would have to pay 164.95. The employee was texting the manager and the reply was there’s nothing I can do unless I pull up the call. So I said yes do that. Cause I’m not paying 164.95. So I waited. Half hr went by and they pulled a call. Was not my call about ordering. It was a call just inquiring on prices and info then she goes on to tell me that now they can’t find the call when I ordered. Very convenient I must say. So needless to say I’m waiting on someone to rectify this issue or my stuff will be coming out of the unit after my 30 days and I will be going to another storage place and going to social media about how much they are unprofessional and lie to you obviously just to make a sale. Robert Deak made a terrible experience much better. My reservation got cancelled on me so they gave me two units which I’m not happy about but it will do. I've been dealing with U-Haul for probably 25 yrs now and I see they have the money to expand to the factory next door and spend all that money but yet they cannot seem to fix the problem with the lift that was broken 3/4 or more of the time I showed up. And I don't know what is going on with the massive pot holes, and (ponds) of water throughout the parking lot. The parking lot is not exactly car friendly. I had multiple problems with the one employee basically calling me a liar about the lift and said"I don't want to have to get up to go show you how to use it" (quoted and I had someone with me who heard that also). Second time he said he wasn't working but was standing behind the counter and would not assist me. Big guy with a beard, serious issues, even with the woman who was helping me one day. It was a little disappointing when I tried to “ skip the line” check in myself. For some reason it wasn’t working where my photo of my license. I asked the young lady if she could help, she said to have a sit and she would check me in. Then charged me for a lock $11.99 that I was to receive free trying to check myself in. I have screen shots of “ skip the line” Then to top it off, she asked if I wanted first or second floor? I replayed, whatever I booked, the $69.95 she said “ no worries” At the end she said that my master auto pay & that it will be $90+ I said $69. Her reply was no no your on the first floor.
