My mother died in California on May 31st. My storage unit was due to be cleared on Jul 2nd. From California, I called ahead verified the balance, spoke through a couple of options and confirmed that it was ok for my daughter Skye Latham who is on the account and has an id on file to pick up with my son. I’m out of State. When my daughter and son show up on the 2nd they were told that they could not honor the settlement amount because I needed to be there😡. I asked to speak to a manager to see if under the circumstances could make an exception and explain what I’d already been told. Arlethe is who I was transferred to. Arlethe was cold, apathetic, indifferent, inflexible condescending and rude. I walked out of our meeting with the mortuary to take the upset call from my daughter. I’m now in Los Angeles sobbing on steps of a mortuary with U-HAUL because Arlethe is complicating a very simple task. We ended up getting everything taken care of. A different rep at the front desk honored the original agreement, allowed my son and daughter to pick up and returned our deposit and agreed that Arlethe was being unreasonable and insensitive.

BENITA B | Overall ExperienceYes, the storage unit itself was clean and once I got the right one it was easy. Unfortunately, the entire process took over an hour. The staff was unprepared and gave me a unit that was already assigned to somebody else. Thankfully, I stopped at the unit while they were still open during store hours otherwise I would’ve been in an unfortunate circumstance. The staff was kind, but they seemed very unfamiliar with the process in the system that U-Haul uses seems very slow. Also, I find it strange that you cannot ring up everything at once they had to do several separate transactions for everything.
