On October 29, 2025, I drove my 81-year-old grandmother and a Tasker I hired to a U-Haul facility to assist her in renting a 10-foot truck. My grandmother does not drive, so the Tasker was hired to operate the vehicle on her behalf. My grandmother and the Tasker went inside first. For reasons that were not explained to us, the Tasker was denied authorization to be listed as a driver. After they returned to the car and shared what happened, I went inside to rent the truck myself. Upon entering, I was immediately met with hostility from a white, bald male employee appearing to be in his 40s or 50s. Without asking for my name, ID, or any information, he abruptly refused service and stated that I was “grouped with them” and that “the system won’t allow me to rent to you.” I calmly attempted to explain that I had no personal connection to the Tasker beyond hiring him for the day, and that I had successfully rented a U-Haul truck the previous day without issue. However, the employee repeatedly cut me off and refused to allow me to speak. When I asked for clarification about the denial, he continued to repeat that “y’all folks are family or whatever.” This statement was unprofessional, inappropriate, and racially offensive. Not all Black customers are “family” or “together,” and the assumption reflected a clear bias and discriminatory conduct. I left the premises after calling out the behavior as racist and unacceptable. This experience was deeply uncomfortable, disrespectful, and inconsistent with U-Haul’s stated commitment to customer service and inclusivity. I am requesting that U-Haul conduct a formal investigation into this incident, review security footage from that date and time, and address this employee’s conduct appropriately to prevent similar experiences for future customers.

The only issue was mice chewed my boxes and there were lots of droppings left. They mice apparently lived free for 2 years in the storage. Otherwise, everything was fine.
