6/10/26 i rented a 26’ U-Haul truck to move from 8222 Dorchester Charleston. The girl, Madison T, who helped asked “round trip”, i said “one way”. She asked “how many days”, i said “one, we are moving stuff to Walterboro”. She told me the total and got the truck. Never did she say there was a certain mileage that i was only allowed to drive before extra charges accumulated. What if i had to drive to several locations to move that were not close? After the move when i returned the truck to the scheduled location, Pump Market in Walterboro, and completed the app return process, it said i had to pay an extra $80 but didn’t explain what that charge was for. I asked the guy there about the extra charge, he spoke very poor English, and he said he didn’t know. I called the original rental location and spoke with the “asst” manager, don’t remember her name (because i was upset she was brushing me off like, oh well, we got your money), on the 11th at 3pm she said it was for extra miles. I explained that no one said anything about mileage. We went back and forth but she kept denying any culpability for not being informed about mileage and apologized if that did happen. I asked to go up the chain of command and speak to the manager, to which she said she was the manager on duty. i asked her to have the head manager call me ASAP. She said the only thing she could do is put in a dispute because they wouldn’t be able to refund my money even though they didn’t say anything about extra charges, I told her please do so. Ultimately she said i would have to speak with the return location to see if they would refund the charges. She gave me a number to call which “couldn’t be completed as dialed”, please try again. In her defense the website also provides that number for Pump Market. Obviously U-Haul needs to do better training for their employees because this is not acceptable and will not be tolerated. For these reasons I will never do business with U-Haul again.

robbie r | First ImpressionsOn moveout, I realized that my unit had been broken in to, and several hundred dollars of my tools that I have stored there were stolen, the thieves even left the cut up lock on the doorstep. I was never notified of this, so who knows how long ago it was stolen. Did not even bother reporting it, as I have not been to the unit in months and it would be impossible to find the culprit.
