I have used Uhaul several times and this time was my worst, most stressful experience ever and was REALLY close to never using them again. When I reserve a truck on the website, it is not easily understood that the "preferred location" is just basically where you HOPE your truck is going to be. I made my reservation several days in advance and the day before I am to pick up my reserved truck, I receive a phone call that my pickup location is now 20 minutes away from my chosen site. Although it is only 20 minutes, it is actually at least forty minutes out of way. It required me to travel this additional milage after I drive an hour commute after an 8 hour work day. I would now need to travel an hour from work to my parent's house in order to find someone to drive me BACK 20 miles to pick up this truck, BACK to my parent's to load up my truck, to travel back to my new moving location. (Note: the new uhaul location is between my work and my parent's/hometown, so there is no "on the way". And also, I have limited people who can help me drive/pick up this truck). I contact UHaul to discuss this problem and see if there is anything they can do because now I am paying additional gas milage on both the truck and my car, and added milage. Not to mention the storage unit that I am supposed to be out of that evening. Every person I talked to said there was nothing that they could do but add additional milage to compensate for my added trip. Moving is stressful. This "ordeal" added even more stress to my situation that I found myself on the phone for 45 minutes during my work hours (which I am a new employee, and not easily accepted), and crying in the bathroom because I was at a loss for a driver to get me to this new location to make this move accommodate my helpers. If it wasn't for the worker at the Uhaul facility at my preferred location going out of her way to PICKUP this truck for me and bringing it back to that location, Im not sure how I would have made it work. I want to mention that the girls that I spoke with were rather short and stubborn in helping me. I also want to suggest maybe a pop up box or a BIG comment when you make a reservation for a "preferred location" that it is in fact just a place Uhaul will base the closest location from. Because there is no payment due at the end of the reservation, it's easily missed and because I "Agreed to the regulations" there was no help anyone was able to provide for me.

The Uhaul was clean except for the pet hair on the front seat and one of the people helping me move is very allergic to many different animals so it bothered him some. The personnel at the store were nice and helpful in getting me on my way quickly.

I did have a problem. When I reserved this truck I did so for a 24 hour period. When I went to pickup the truck (5:30 pm) The clerk informed me that this truck was going out in the morning. After telling him this wasn't possible, he gave me a truck that was going out at 1PM. When I returned the truck the next day, I expressed my concern to the clerk on duty. Her explanation was that the trucks are booked at a corporate level and thus not in her control. Now... The young man at pickup time lowered my rate and my mileage rate which was noble. My problem is that I wasn't able to get everything moved. I sincerely hope this doesn't happen often, and that this was a fluke.

Although Aims provided excellent customer service and all went very smoothly with them, I was extremely dismayed that Uhaul did not inform me that my truck, originally scheduled to be picked up in Alfred at the Tinkertown location had been relocated to the Aims location in Hornell, 15 miles further away. Although Uhaul claimed to have texted me on the 20th about the relocation, they most certainly did not. I had a crew of 10 people waiting around for an hour an a half before we could start moving as planned. Not cool.
