This was not my originally chosen location. However, I was contacted by U Haul Dispatch, saying that they did NOT have a 10' truck and Dolly available in Jacksonville. They were upgrading me to a 15' truck, and an auto transport. I was directed to Against the Grain. As I was enroute to that location, the owner (Mel) called to tell me that he had the truck, but no auto transport. Someone told him to eliminate the auto transport from my Reservation, and they located one 18 miles south in Snead's Ferry. I asked if they were 'open' this late on Sunday, and he assured me that they were. We high-tailed it down the road (the opposite direction that we wanted to go), and arrived between 3:45 and 3:50 PM, and were told that they closed at 4. He was unaware that I was coming. When he (Richard) pulled up my Reservation, there was no auto transport on it. He called Dispatch, and spoke w/Misty, and she was very upset with this recounting of my run-around. Finally, she advised Richard to just write up a new reservation for the transport. He couldn't get it to go thru, because it kept asking what type of equipment it was being attached to. When he entered 'U Haul truck', the system wanted to charge me for a new truck rental. Misty was able, after considerable effort, to get the reservation thru. Richard helped to get the car loaded, and everything safely anchored down (I am 71 years old, and not that agile). He said that the hookups are the Customer's responsibility, as U Haul did not want to assume any liability for faulty hookups. After over an hour on site, we were on our way. Incidentally, Richard (Snead's Ferry), had both 10' truck, and the transport. All we were moving was 6 small household items that did not fit on our original truckload. We drove 750 mile to Jacksonville to pick it up, and then 750 miles back to our new home in Murfreesboro, TN. I paid U Haul over $700 for a vehicle much too big for the need, and the additional fuel costs for a much larger vehicle. All of this, in addition to experiencing very poor coordination of reserved equipment. Fortunately for U Haul, the drop off location and personnel were exceptionally excellent!! When I mentioned the 'hook-up' policy, they used some very colorful Tennessee adjectives to let me know that it IS their responsibility to do everything to secure the hookup of transport to truck, and the car on the transport. The only thing they do NOT do is drive the car onto the transport, but they do guide the owner in getting that done. I am a business man. This experience was dreadful!!!

I was flying into Jacksonville and was at the mercy of the airlines. My Uhaul reservation ended up split into two locations, one of which, Against the Grain, would be closed by the time I arrived. I called and talked to Mel at Against the Grain and he said closing time shouldn't be a problem but to call him back the day I travelled. I called the Uhaul location where my truck was going to be and tried to get my tow dolley moved to there location so I only had one stop and it would be open but your system doesn't allow equipment transfers between locations. At least that's what they told me. I called Mel the day I travelled, told him my situation, he said he had both pieces I needed, would transfer my reservation to his location for me and stay open up to 1 1/2 hours after closing to make sure I got what I needed. Are you kidding me!!!? I arrived 1 hour after he closed and he made good on everything he said he would. You don't have a rating high enough for me to give him. I appreciate his hustle and you're lucky to have him representing your brand!

It took 3 different locations before we finally go to one - 30 minutes away- that had the truck we had ordered 2 weeks prior. Nobody communicated with each other. I was told the day before that our truck was on the lot and ready for pick up...we were on huge time crunch with our moving day. Nothing was ready, the order wasn't correct. That is not the pickup location's fault, it is UHAUL's fault. I will never use UHAUL again and I'm telling everyone I know about my experience.
