The personnel at each location that we visited was pleasant, helpful and as accommodating as possible. That said, our overall experience was very negative, as it was most significantly affected by Uhaul's inability to accommodate our order. Moving (particularly a long distance move) is a stressful experience even if everything goes smoothly. My husband and I booked a 26 foot truck for Thunder Bay pickup (Sudbury ON drop-off) in April in order to ensure that the equipment would be available for our June 30th weekend move. Despite that - and our calls monthly to the original Thunder Bay location to ensure a truck would be present - I was contacted less than a week prior to the move to advise that the vehicle would in fact NOT be available. Further, nothing was available in Thunder Bay to meet our needs, and I was told that the only option was a truck/trailer combination in Nipigon (over 100kms away from Thunder Bay). At that point, we had no other options available and were forced to accept this alternative arrangement. This meant that we were driving an extra 200 kms beyond our 1015 km journey with the added risks of towing a trailer. While we were given a kilometer 'bonus' to accommodate this, the difficulty also lay in the fact that about 3 hours of travel time would necessarily be deducted from our last-minute packing period; this was valuable time that instead was spent on the road, correcting a mistake that was not our responsibility. We have finished our move, and there was a discount on the total price out of recognition for the changes, but the reality is that this is unacceptable business practice and a complete disservice to your customers. Based on my conversations with Uhaul employees, I came to learn that this is, in fact, not an uncommon occurrence and that essentially Uhaul equipment bookings can and should never be considered certain. In my view, this is an irresponsible model and it caused my husband and I a tremendous amount of grief and risk at a sensitive time in our lives. I resent that and, despite our pleasant interactions with Uhaul employees/agents, I would never recommend Uhaul to friends or family. In fact, I would do whatever possible to discourage their use of the company.

Had I known ahead of time I would have not paid in advance. I brought the trailer back a full day ahead of time and DID NOT get credit for bringing it back early! So I ended up paying for a full day to have it parked in the lot. I rent cars every 3 months and I ONLY get charged for the amount of time I use the vehicle. If I bring it back early I still only get charged for the amount of time I used. Not only are the prices a little high but the return part sucks and I won't use UHaul ever again. It served its purpose but I am not happy about my experience.

Put winter tires on your vehicles for winter use. It will make a huge difference. Also notify customer where the hazard lights are
