The truck rental itself was excellent. However, there needs to be consistency about the procedures for return. Over the phone, the man in Molalla who set up the truck rental in Mulino (as he was going to be out of town) said I would need a smartphone to return the truck after hours. This was similar to my experience renting a U-Haul in Portland. The check-in does not work on a laptop, only on a smartphone with access to the app. I said I didn't have a smartphone, so the man on the phone said I would need to return the truck during business hours. As the store is not open on Sundays and I needed longer than 5pm the same day on Saturday, I came back on Monday morning to return the keys and get checked out. When I had gone to rent the truck on Saturday, the man at the store said all I would need to do to return the truck after hours is find a space on the lot and put the key in the drop box. I was going to do just that when I had remembered what I was told on the phone and what had been required during my experience in Portland. I thought, Should I just drop the key in the box and leave the truck anyway? I thought I would do that and just call later to check in. However, there is a very clear sign by the drop box that says that the smartphone check-in process is required BEFORE dropping your key in the drop box. This is posted AT THIS LOCATION. If, in fact, this check-in process is bogus and customers just need to leave the truck and return the key, please take this sign down. Please also inform all of your employees that this procedure is not necessary. I would have simply dropped the keys and not worried about the check-in procedure had I known. I would prefer to not waste time and gas. Please be clear and consistent with this process. Thank you!
